Amazon Analysis Reflection

The purpose of the Amazon stock assignment was to put most of the things we learned

throughout the course to a real world situation. It also was a way of showing what we learned.

Turns out a company doesn’t have to be perfect in order for it to be smart to invest in their

stocks. There were a few ratios that made Amazon look bad investment wise, but the ratios that

mainly focused on how well investments are were great.

The accounting related skills I used in completing this assignment were: calculating

ratios, analysing ratios, and explaining what I saw. The other skills required were the ability to

write towards a specific audience, present data, research when more answers are needed, and be

able to tell if the information reaches your goals.

I was a bit thrown when I first started the assignment and saw how many areas Amazon

was doing bad in. It was kind of difficult to understand what the ratios meant in terms of

investing. We didn’t really talk a lot about what each of the ratios mean to an investor, more like

what it meant for the business. I had to do a bit of research to find out if those areas of the

company mattered as much to investors.

I’m going into engineering and will need to present my designs to customers in a way

that makes them want to use it. With budgets and limited space, not all dreams can come true in

the design. Not everything was perfect about Amazon, but they were good enough to invest in.
