The Introduction

The introduction to a research paper can be the most

challenging part of the paper to write.

The length of the introduction will vary depending on

the type of research paper you are writing.

An introduction should announce your topic, provide a

rationale for your work, before stating your research
questions. Well-written introductions set the tone for
the paper, catch the reader's interest, and
communicate the project statement.

Introduction Structure
1- what is known
Show what is already known(Background
Information)

2- what is unknown
Show the gap in knowledge

3- How and why

Show how the study fills in the
knowledge gap
In the introduction, you must consider these
points:

1- Start broadly and then narrow down

In the first paragraph, briefly describe the broad

research area and then narrow down to your
particular focus. This will help position your
research topic and highlight its importance.
2- State the aims and importance

An introduction is weak if it is not showing the importance of

the topic.
3- Avoid giving too many citations for one point

Once you've narrowed your focus to the specific topic of

your study, you should carefully cover the most recent and
most relevant literature relating to your study.
4- Consider giving an overview of the project

In the last paragraph of your introduction, consider giving a

section-by-section overview of your paper if it is appropriate
for your field.
5- Keep it short

Try to avoid an overly long introduction. A good target is

around 500 words. The introduction around 10% of the total
length of the paper.

6- Don’t use the first person pronouns.

avoid to use pronouns such as (I, we, they) you can use the
author or in this study.
