Established in 2003 by the North Carolina Utilities Commission, NC GreenPower was the

first, statewide multi-utility renewable energy program in the nation. This landmark
program launched an opportunity for North Carolinians to voluntarily support the growth
of renewable energy in North Carolina. NC GreenPower also offers carbon offsets to
address growing concerns about the impact of greenhouse gases on the environment.

GENERATING CHANGE
NC GreenPower continues to see growth in
every aspect of our mission. To date, we have
more than 430 renewable energy projects
generating electricity to North Carolina’s
power supply. Our program includes solar,
wind, landfill methane gas, small hydroelec-
tric generation, and biomass projects. We also
have several commercial-scale projects in
the program. Nearly 13,000 North Carolinians
are actively supporting the program. And in
2008, we added our carbon offset program.

• A renewable energy contribution of just $4 per month adds
one block of 100 kilowatt-hours of green energy to North
Carolina’s power supply. Over a year, that energy is the
approximate environmental equivalent of 972 pounds of coal
that would have been required to produce the same energy.
