Strategy Reassessment Plan Spring 2021

Describe Any Needed Generic Strategy Changes in Remaining Rounds (worth up to 25 points)
Team Submission Due by Friday, March 19 at 5PM by email to moesel@missouri.edu

Background Context:

At the beginning of the simulation, all companies were similar and products in each segment were
identical to each other. Quite a bit has changed in the thee practice rounds and first three regular
rounds and now the range in performance across firms is quite noticeable. The goal is still to build a
company that is successful in delivering substantial value to customers and that functions as a reliable
and valued employer in its communities.

1. Performance Review (.25 pages) 6 points:

Briefly summarize the competitive performance of our team’s firm so far (report performance through
Round 3). Make sure to comment specifically on relative profitability of your firm versus other firms.
What has been your team’s biggest success so far relative to its rivals in the industry and what has been
the biggest challenge? Where would you rank your team right now versus the other student teams in
the industry if competition continued as it has so far? Which dimensions of your firm’s balanced
scorecard need the most improvement?

2. Generic Strategy Evaluation (.25 pages) 6 points:

Restate your original generic strategy type you committed to pursue in the original strategy plan
assignment. How fully do you believe you were been able to implement that strategy in the first three
regular rounds? Describe any obstacles that have arisen for the team that have made successful
implementation of the strategy more difficult. What can your team do to reduce or minimize such
obstacles in the remaining rounds? Describe any changes in your intended generic strategy (including
changes in specific segments in which you will be active) which your team has begun to or intends to
make and why you think this will help given your current positioning starting with round four. You may
also choose to opt for a new generic strategy for R4-R8. If you wish to do this be sure to state the
specific strategy type here and why you think it will work better for your team. How many total products
does your team intend to use and in which segments?

3. Investments and Positioning (1 page) 13 points:

Given what your team thinks it has learned from competition so far, describe specific investment levels
and positioning decisions you plan to use to implement your adapted strategy in the remainder of the
simulation. Use the same matrix format that you used for the original Strategy Plan Report in Part D but
highlight the elements which have changed since your initial Strategy Plan Report by placing your entries
in changed cells in bold. This should include approaches you’ll use in each functional area. For instance,
if your entry for Automation for the Traditional Segment has changed from Firm- Medium (F-M) to Firm-
High (F-H) then make sure to highlight that new “H” in bold and in italics to differentiate it from cells
that have not changed since the earlier Strategy Plan Report. Likewise if your entry for Automation for
the Traditional Segment has changed from R-L and R-H then make sure to highlight that new “H” in bold
and in italics to differentiate it from cells that have not changed since the earlier Strategy Plan Report.
Remember that all of the cells in the upper portion of the matrix should have two cell entries (a F-x
entry and a R-x entry) rather than just one cell entry. The F-x entry tells whether the use of the lever in
this segment should be higher or lower or the same as your firm’s use of the lever in other segments of
your firm. The R-x entry tells whether the use of the lever in this segment should be higher or lower or
about the same as its use by rivals in the same segment. Update the column of comments in the table of
simulation levers to reflect any new changes in your logic for specific levers.

Format:
Prepare 2-4 single spaced pages in 12 point font with one inch margins. It is okay to use bullet points to
summarize your logic. List your full team name in the format of “S10 Tuesday Andrews.” Please list the
team name and the name of all team members at the top of the plan.
