This research will examine the politeness strategies in the @mahasiswamalang Instagram.

the data sources are taken from the advertisement post at @mahasiswamalang instagram from

November 2016. The data only focused on 3 posts which have the most comments. The data are

in form of word, phrases and sentence.

Datum 1

In the first post, found one of politeness strategies that is positive politeness. One of

the followers at @mahasiswamalang instagram comments “ditunggu aja ya, hehehe

@windiagstini” . This sentence indicate that the speaker wants to save his face. He does not

want to make a promise, but he tries to not make his interlocutor dissapointed. In this case, this

sentence also include off record because this sentence has implicit meaning. It is not clear

whether this sentence succesfully well-delivered to the interlocutor or not. In the next comments

also found politeness strategies that is on record. It is found in the sentence “coba yuuu mb bek

@putrinbeffinna”. The speaker stated this sentence explicitly and the meaning is already clear. It

will be well understood by the interlocutor.

In the second post also found several politeness strategies those are positive

politeness. It is found in the sentence “lihaten @guntur3 kyoke enak, iso juwadul yo hehehe” in

this case the speaker wants to save her face by stated something implicitly. Actually the speaker

wants to invite her interlocutor to try that food, but she does not want to stated it explicitly.

It is also found negative politeness in the second post. in the sentence “@dewwig

budal ayooo ojok kebanyakan wacana” the speaker ignore the interlocutor’s view about her.

What she stated is what actually happen. It is also found positive politeness in the sentence

“koyok e iki pedes2 yokpo ngunu @pusspita16, lek yaya kuah e menggoda” it indicates the

speaker save his face by stating the strength of the food, actually it contains something

implicitly. The speaker wants to invite the interlocutor to try this food.”

In the third post found negative politeness “@dianaenda98 kapan kesana? Pdhl dr

sekolah tinggal jalan wkwk” in this case the speaker does not try to save her face. She stated

clearly that she invite her interlocutor to try that food. It is also include on record because the

meaning is understood. In addition, in the sentence “cepet tutup pak Kayin iki @niswa_iim” is

include positive politeness. In this case, the speaker tries to save her face face by stated

something implicitly. She tries to explained that she ever came but the restaurant was already

close. That is why that she stated “cepet tutup pak Kayin iki @niswa_iim.

2. CONCLUSION

From this research, the researcher can conclude that there are found many politeness

strategies in the real communication including communicate in Social Media. Even though

most of the users of instagram are college students sometimes, they are still ignore about

politeness and politeness strategies. From the findings and discussion found that positive

politeness is used for many times to stated something implicitly such as invite the

interlocutor to go somewhere. Being aware of politeness and politeness strategies are needed

to make the communication flow smoothly. Furthermore, being aware of them will make the

communication do not get barriers.
