Timing belt: removal/installation
General
Note: The crankshaft must not be at TDC when turning the camshaft

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Turn the tensioner as shown

Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)

Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner

Remove the trim strip
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Turn the tensioner as shown

Attach the engine to the engine support bar

Remove the engine mounting bracket

Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)

Remove the engine mount

Remove the upper timing cover
General
Remove
Note: Thethe crankshaft
crankshaft pulley
must not be at TDC when turning the camshaft
Remove the lower timing cover
Removal
Remove thethe
Disconnect middle timing

Turn the the

engine upper for cylinder 1
Align

timing marks
battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Turn the tensioner as shown

Fit the camshaft locking pin (A = 3359)


Fit the crankshaft locking tool (B = T10100)
Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)
Loosen the camshaft gearwheel bolts slightly but ensure the gearwheel can rotate freely
(1)

Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner

General
Note: The crankshaft must not be at TDC when turning the camshaft

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Turn the tensioner as shown

Loosen the tensioner pulley nut


Turn the tensioner anti-clockwise until the locking pin fits

Fit
Usethe
thetensioner locking tool(1 = T10020) (T10060A)
special tool
or:
Use an Allen key
Locking pin: (2 = T10115)
Turn the tensioner pulley clockwise to release the tension

Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner

General
Note: The crankshaft must not be at TDC when turning the camshaft

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the
Tighten the tensioner
ancillary drive
pulleybelt
nut finger-tight (A)
Turn thethe
Remove tensioner as shown
timing belt
Note: Remove the timing belt from the coolant pump first

Installation
Ensure the camshaft is locked (3359)
Ensure the crankshaft is locked (T10100)
Ensure the tensioner pulley locking pin is still in position (T10115)
Move the gearwheel to centre position in elongated holes (A = 3359)

Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)

Fit the timing belt clockwise, starting at the crankshaft gearwheel


Fit the timing belt to the coolant pump pulley last
Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner

Ensure that the tensioner is fitted correctly
General
Note: The crankshaft must not be at TDC when turning the camshaft

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Turn the tensioner as shown

Loosen the tensioner pulley nut


Remove the locking pin (T10115)
Turn the tensioner clockwise until the pointer is in the centre of the marks (1 =
T10020)

Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)

Hold the tensioner pulley in this position


Tighten the tensioner pulley nut
Stage 1: (20 Nm)
Stage 2: (45°)
Tighten the camshaft gearwheel bolts (1 = 25 Nm)
Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner

Ensure that the timing belt tension does not slacken
General
Use the
Note: special

not be at TDC when turning the camshaft

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Turn the tensioner as shown

Remove the camshaft locking pin (A = 3359)


Remove the crankshaft locking tool (T10100)
Turn the engine 2 rotations until just before TDC
Turn the crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1
Fit the camshaft locking pin (A = 3359)
Check that the crankshaft locking tool can be fitted (B = T10100)

Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)

Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner

Note: The crankshaft must not be at TDC when turning the camshaft

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Turn the tensioner as shown

If the special tool does not fit


Loosen the camshaft gearwheel bolts

Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)

Turn the crankshaft anti-clockwise slightly from TDC


Turn the crankshaft clockwise
Until the the
Remove special tool engages
ancillary drive belt tensioner (A = T10100)

General
Note: The crankshaft must not be at TDC when turning the camshaft

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Tighten the camshaft gearwheel bolts (1 = 25 Nm)
Turn the tensioner as shown
Ensure that the timing belt tension does not slacken
Use the special tool to counterhold (B = T10172)

Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)

Remove the camshaft locking pin (A = 3359)


Remove the crankshaft locking tool (T10100)
Turn the engine 2 rotations until just before TDC
Turn the crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1
Fit the camshaft locking pin (A = 3359)
Check that the crankshaft locking tool can be fitted (B = T10100)

Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner

Note: The crankshaft must not be at TDC when turning the camshaft

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Turn the tensioner as shown

Refit the lower timing cover


Refit the crankshaft pulley
Stage 1: (10 Nm)
Stage 2: (90°)
Refit the middle timing cover
Refit the engine support bracket
Refit the engine mount
Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)
Refit the engine mounting bracket

Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner

Remove the engine support bar
General
Refit the
Note: Theupper timingmust
crankshaft covernot be at TDC when turning the camshaft
Refit the trim strip
Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Remove the battery
Remove the air filter housing
Remove the inlet manifold
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Turn the tensioner as shown

Refit the ancillary drive belt tensioner


Refit the ancillary drive belt
Refit the inlet manifold
Refit the air filter housing and hoses
Reconnect the power steering lines to the engine mount
Refit the engine lower cover
Refit the battery

Torque settings
Tensioner pulley: (20 Nm + 45°)
Ancillary drive belt tensioner: (25 Nm)
Fit the tensioner locking tool (T10060A)
Engine support (bolts): (60 Nm)
Engine support (nuts): (55 Nm)
Crankshaft pulley: (10 Nm + 90°)

Special tools
Camshaft locking pin: (3359)
Crankshaft locking tool: (T10100)
Tensioner turning tool (T10020)
Tensioner locking pin: (T10115)
Camshaft gearwheel holding tool: (T10172)
