1.0 SCOPE
This Transmission Material Standard Specification (TMSS) specifies the minimum technical
requirements in respect of design, engineering, fabrication, construction, inspection, testing
and performance of XLPE insulated, single core, aluminum or copper power cable, rated
69kV intended to be used in the Transmission System of Saudi Electricity Company,
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
2.1 This Transmission Material Standard Specification shall be read in conjunction with
the Transmission General Specification No. 01-TMSS-01, titled "General
Requirements for All Equipment/Materials", which shall be considered as an integral
part of this TMSS.
2.2 This TMSS shall also be read in conjunction with Transmission Business Unit
(TBU) of SEC Purchase Order or Contract Schedule for project, as applicable.
The latest edition of the following Codes and Standards shall be applicable for the
equipment/material covered in this TMSS. In case of conflict, the vendor/ manufacturer
may propose equipment/material conforming to one group of Industry Codes and Standards
quoted hereunder without jeopardizing the requirements of this TMSS.
3.2 IEC 60840 : Power Cables with Extruded Insulation and Their
Accessories for Rated Voltages Above 30kV (Um =
36kV) up to 150kV (Um=170kV)- Test Methods and
Requirements.
4.1 General
4.1.1 The power cable shall meet or exceed the requirements of this Specification
in all respects.
4.1.2 Manufacturer's drawings shall show the outline of the power cable, together
with all pertinent dimensions. Any variations in these dimensions due to
manufacturing tolerances shall be indicated.
4.2.2 The power cable shall be designed for ambient temperature conditions
specified in 01-TMSS-01.
4.2.4 The cable design shall prevent ingress of water radially and longitudinally.
Manufacturer shall clearly indicate the cable components providing the above
water ingress prevention.
4.2.5 The construction of the cable shall be essentially as shown in Figure 1. The
ratings and dimensions shall be as indicated in the Data Schedule.
4.3 Materials
4.3.1 Conductor
The average thickness and minimum thickness of the conductor shield shall
be as indicated in the Data Schedule.
4.3.3 Insulation
The average thickness and minimum thickness of the insulation shield shall
be as indicated in the Data Schedule.
The metallic shield shall consist of copper wires with or without binding
copper tape(s).
The minimum short circuit current rating of the above metallic shield for one
second duration shall be as indicated in the Data Schedule.
4.3.7 Jacket
The jacket material shall be black linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE)
or linear medium density polyethylene (LMDPE)
The average and minimum thickness of the jacket shall be as indicated in the
Data Schedule.
The thickness of the conductive layer shall be sufficient so that the jacket
integrity test can be done successfully. Thickness shall be as indicated in the
Data Schedule.
4.4 Fabrication
4.4.2 The cross-linking process shall be by the dry cure dry cooling or dry cure wet
cooling method.
4.4.3 The power cable shall be free of material and manufacturing defects which
would prevent it from meeting the requirements of this Specification.
4.5 Marking
4.5.1 The jacket for all the cables shall be embossed marked in Arabic and English
at intervals not exceeding one meter with the following minimum
information:
a. Electric Cable
d. Insulation thickness, mm
g. Year of manufacture
h. Cumulative length at every one meter with the highest length mark on
the outer end of the cable.
4.5.2 All cables shall be marked with “ Property of Saudi Electricity Company” in
both Arabic and English.
5.0 TESTS
All tests results shall be provided for review and acceptance by TBU.
5.1.1 Routine and type tests per AEIC CS7 or IEC 60840 are acceptable.
5.1.2 A longitudinal water tightness type test shall be conducted on the cable in
accordance with the requirements of IEC 60840.
5.1.3 The completed reeled cable partial discharge test data shall be submitted on a
printout sheet of an X-Y recorder showing the partial discharge curve of each
cable.
5.2.1 Production sampling tests shall be conducted on the cable in accordance with
the requirements of AEIC CS7.
In addition to the applicable items per 01-TMSS-01, packing and shipping of the cable shall
conform to the following :
6.1 A pulling eye attached to the conductor shall be provided at the outside cable end of
each cable shipping length.
6.2 The cable ends shall be sealed with a waterproof, heat shrinkable plastic or
elastomeric end cap with adhesive type sealing compound. Cable ends shall be
properly secured to the reel.
6.3 The cable shall be delivered without splices, on standard sized non-returnable steel
drums of sturdy construction properly packed and lagged externally to prevent the
cable from possible damage during transport. Wood lagging shall be used and have
a minimum thickness of 50mm.
6.4.1 Cable reels/drums shall be marked in legible and indelible letters giving the
following particulars:
e. Dimensions of reel
f. Manufacturer's name and country of origin
g. TBU Purchase Order number
h. J.O. number/Contract number (if applicable)
i. Serial number of reel
j. TBU stock number in 10 cm high bold numerals.
k. Direction of rolling of reel
l. 11-TMSS-01, Rev. 0
6.4.3 Cable reel identification shall include any additional information as required
by the TBU shipping instructions.
