I. Title: Evaluation of Polynomials

II. Learning Competencies: Evaluates algebraic expressions for given values of the variables
(M7AL-IIC-4-2nd Qtr. 2-Week 4)

III. Instruction: This activity sheet focuses on evaluating polynomial function. Read direction
for every activity and answer what is asked.

IV. Activities:
Lesson Guide
To evaluate an algebraic expression is to find its numerical value by substituting a given set
of numbers in place of letters or variables.
Examples:
A. Evaluate 3x – 2y + 5 when x = 2 and y = 4.
Solution: 3(2) – 2(4) + 5
=6–8+5
= -2 + 5
=3
B. Evaluate 4(a – 3) + 3((a + 2) when a = 5
= 4(5- 3) + 3(5 + 2)
= 4(2) + 3(7)
= 8 + 21
= 29
Activity 1
Direction:Evaluate using the given values
a= 1, b = 2, c = 3, x = -3, y = -2, z = -1.
1. 2a + b – c
2. 4x + 3y
3a
3. −7 b

4. +

5.

Activity 2
If a = 2b, express each of the following in terms of b. Then evaluate the result for b = -1
1. a – b 3. ab - ba

2. a 2−b2 4. 4b – 6a

Activity 3
Direction: Evaluate each of the following expressions. Use the given value of each variable.

Algebraic expression Assigned values of the

variable/s
1. 7a + 3b a= - 4 b= 2
2. 4xy – 2(x + y) - y 2 x= 3 y =4
3. (3y + y) + y 2 y = -5
4. 3(m – n) + (6m ÷ n) m=6 n = -4
5. (4 x 2 ÷ y ¿+3(x− y ) x = -3 y=6

V. Closure: How much did you know?

Steps to follow in evaluating algebraic expressions:
1. Substitute the given values for each variable.
2. Simplify first the expression within the parenthesis.
3. Simplify the expressions with exponents.
4. Perform all indicated operations, and simplify results.

I. Title: ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION OF POLYNOMIALS

II. Learning Competency: Adds and subtracts polynomials.(M7AL-IID-2-Qtr.2 -Week 4).

III. Instructions: This activity sheet focused on addition and subtraction of polynomials. Below
are the activities with regard to this topic. Read the directions of each activity and answer
what is asked.

IV. Activities

Lesson Guide 1:

Hint: Like terms Unlike terms

2, -5, 7.5 3, y
−2 3 3
X, 8x, x 3 x2, x
3 4
3x x 2 ,−4 x y 2 3x y 2, 3 x 2y

Remember:
Like terms or similar terms are monomials that contain the same literal coefficients, that is,
the terms have exactly the same variables and exponents.

Activity 1: Determine which of the following are pairs of like terms by placing a check before
the number.

_______1. 25b, 25b 2

_______2. −3 x 3 y 2 , 2 x 3 y 2
_______3. a 4 b2 c ,−11 a 4 b2 c
2
_______4. -0.4,
3
_______5. 3 x y , 3 xy 5

Lesson Guide 2:

Rules for Adding Polynomials

To add polynomials, simply combine similar terms. To combine similar terms, get the
sum of the numerical coefficients and annex the same literal coefficients. If there is more
than one term, for convenience, write similar terms in the same column.
