Simon Kenton Dress Code & Other Policies

2018-2019

Our goal is for students to be college and career ready. Part of our commitment to prepare students for this goal is to
promote appropriate dress.  Below are the guidelines to help students understand the importance of appropriate dress.

Pants
 Pants or jeans must be of the appropriate length and size so they do not drag on the floor or expose
undergarments.
 Pants must not fit so tight that they create indecent exposure.
 Pajama and flannel pants are prohibited.
 Pants must not have holes/frays that show undergarments or the undergarment area creating indecent exposure.

Shirts
 Shirts/blouses, sweatshirts, or t-shirts must fit appropriately so there is no exposure of the stomach, back, or
cleavage.
 Shirts must have sleeves that cover the entire shoulder and do not expose undergarments.
 No spaghetti straps, tank tops, cold shoulder, etc.
 Shirts must be composed of nontransparent material.

Shorts/Skirts/Dresses
 Shorts, skirts, and dresses must fit appropriately so, that when worn at the waist while standing, the length will
come to the mid-thigh around the entire leg, regardless of the accompaniment of leggings.
 Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be composed of nontransparent material at least to the mid-thigh.

Accessories
 Any item brought to school is subject to search at any time.
 Any item including book bags brought to class must easily fit under the desk and not be a tripping hazard.
 Cell phones, earbuds, headphones, etc. should remain out of sight unless permission is granted by the classroom
teacher to be used for instructional purposes.
 Students should store items (hats, coats, book bags, etc.) not needed for instructional purposes during the school
day in their lockers.
 Head coverings including hats, sunglasses, bandanas and hoods are prohibited unless recognized as a religious
symbol.
 No skateboards, pillows, or blankets in the building – at anytime.
 Clothing, tattoos, or other accessories that depict or promote alcohol, drugs, gangs, violence, tobacco, sexual
behavior, profanity, discrimination, racially inappropriate items with provocative symbols, or any other
disruptions to the learning environment are prohibited.
 Trench coats are prohibited.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION
 Administrators have the final say in determining what is acceptable clothing.
 Violations or arguments concerning the dress code will be considered to be defiance of authority and will be
handled using the Kenton County Board of Education Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline.
