Project GEMS
(Gabriel English
Medium School)
The Goal :
T he average household income of parents whose children are studying in GEMS is around
Rs.1800 per month for these households. But if we relate the increasing prices of essential
commodities with a family size of 6 to 7 members, it becomes difficult to provide for education
for these households. Around 27 per cent households are spending more than Rs 200 per
month on liquor and alcohol. As far as occupation of father is concerned, around 55% are
engaged as skilled or unskilled labourers, have irregular jobs and low income.
The children attending GEMS are amongst the poorest and socially / economically
disadvantaged section of society. They are the first generation learners, thus they don’t get
any academic support from their parents. No keenness is seen among the parents to educate
their children. Because of poverty, the parent’s focus is on their children’s earnings rather than
children’s education. We have also observed that parents focus on child labor to generate
money rather than educating the child.
Progress in 2009-10 :
108 students were taken for excursion to see
places in Delhi. These included Raj Ghat,
India Gate, and National Zoological Park
The school organized a health camp on 2 nd

On 17th December 2009, the Annual Day of
the school was celebrated on school
premises. Ms. Manisha Bhatnagar was the

academic and full attendance.

Enrollment of Out of School Children in Satbari Village
Chattarpur, New Delhi
Project GEMS is a standing testimony of how the impossible was achieved. Starting from
a humble strength of 12 in July 2005, the admission rose to 43 in the same academic
year. As stories of success circulated, more and more parents were convinced about the
importance of sending their children to GEMS. We feel proud to say that we have touched
lives of 201 students and saved them from child labour. Given below is the student
strength from 2005 to 2010.

Project
Homeopathic
Clinic for Senior
Citizens and
Underpriveleged
The Goal :
T he basic principle of homeopathy, known as the "law of similars", is "let like be cured by
like." This was first stated by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. Homeopathic
remedies are prepared by serial dilution with shaking by forceful striking on an elastic body,
which homeopaths term succussion. Each dilution followed by succussion is assumed to
increase the effectiveness. Homeopaths call this process potentization. Dilution often continues
until none of the original substance remains.
Apart from the symptoms, homeopaths examine aspects of the patient's physical and
psychological state, then homeopathic reference books known as repertories are consulted,
and a remedy is selected based on the totality of symptoms.
Our clinic to uses the same procedure as given above and caters to homeopathic medicines
and tonics. The clinic is very well stocked with an inventory of all homoeopathic medicines. It
has stocks of medicines from renowned companies like SBL, Swabbe India, German
medicines and Bio-force Medicines. The common medicines given daily are Nosodes for acute
& chronic cases and Bach flowers for remedy of mental disease. All types of Gynae check up
are also available in this clinic.

Ms. Sakshi
Had low vision after having a cataract operation and couldn't see in
bright sunlight and darkness. The shock of her husband's sudden
death had disturbed her a lot and she had developed an acute
problem of forgetting her way to the home, despite having lived there

she still had other minor problems like cramps of the leg and knee pain
for which she is being treated currently.
