ACTIVITY TITLE: Case Analysis
CASE STORY TITLE: Volunteerism

Conflict Identification
Volunteerism is rendering work or services willingly without any form of compensation. It is a
productive use of free time, a chance to give depth to an otherwise ordinary day. Jaja, our main
character in this story, is a very passionate volunteer. Jaja started volunteering at a very early
age. In her early school years, she has already exposed herself to different charity events such as
visiting orphanages, feeding programs, teaching, and playing with kids. These outreach programs
sponsored by the company where her mother works has influenced and molded Jaja’s life and
future dreams. She wanted to be a teacher to educate children, but her family has a different
dream for her. They wanted her to be a lawyer. Despite her initial doubts and misgivings, Jaja
started law school to fulfill her family’s dream. Amidst all the responsibilities, the expectations
and the harsh realization that came with law school, Jaja still finds time to share her time with
others.

Plan of Action
Even after law school, Jaja still wants to pursue her dreams of being a pre-school teacher. Her
degree in sociology sparked her passion for teaching children. As a volunteer, she encourages
everyone to experience this kind humanitarian activities. She emphasized that we could all help
in our own little ways. We do not need specific talents or personalities because we are as good as
we are. There are different ways where people can contribute, from cooking to distribution of
food during feeding programs, playing or teaching kids, visiting communities or simply listening
to their unique stories and concerns. To those who are shy, they can help behind the scenes as
photographers, writers, online advocates and so on. The opportunity to help and contribute is
limitless. The key is to find the right avenue that fits our skills and personality which is genuine
passion and kindness.

Reflection
Volunteering gives one an opportunity to change people’s lives, including your own. It gives
satisfaction in playing a role in someone else’s life, helping people who may not be able to help
themselves. Volunteering is a way of giving back to the community while developing important
social skills and gaining valuable work experience at the same time. The services by volunteers
are not paid not because they are not worth paying for but because it is considered priceless.
