LESSON PROCEDURE
Introduction (time: 2:45-2:55)
Hook/Attention Grabber: Help Tie Skates and split into groups
1) Meet the students at the gym and walk down to the rink together.
2) When getting to the rink explain that before they split into groups they will be working on
some skating skills. After one group will be one side of the red line playing hockey. While
the other side can have a free skate.
3) Students will need help tying skates before they get on the ice.

Transitioning from Hook to Body:


Get your skates on and encourage others to skate.

Body (time: 2:55-3:20 )

Learning Activity #1: Bubble Strides


1) Create 3-4 lines, depending on the how many students there are.
2) Explain that anyone who skates needs to master the fundamentals regardless of the skill
level. Even the pros have to do that.
3) Basic is single feet reaching out and bringing it back it. With such little time have the
students do just the alternating.

Learning Activity #2: After the skills


1) After doing the skills once or twice the teacher can have the students split into two
groups.
2) One side can play posts, while the other can have a free skate.

Closure (time: 3:20-3:28)


Walk the students back with the students so you can pick up the next class.

Student Differentiation:
Differentiation could be having a crutch for students to skate on.

work on a skill before playing and those who skate less often will have a different skill to
work on. After one group will be one side of the red line playing hockey. While the other
side can have a free skate.
6) Make sure that those who struggle to skate to not to grab on to someone.
7) Students will need help tying skates before they get on the ice.

Get your skates on and encourage others to skate.

Body (time: 2:55-3:20 )

4) As students are getting on to the ice the teacher will explain that those who are higher
skilled at skating will ride their inside edge around the ice.
5) Those are struggle at skating will need to C cuts to the boards (width) and back twice
before they can have a free skate.
6) After both groups have done their activity they can play a game of hockey or a different
game.

Walk the students back with the students so you can pick up the next class.

8) The skill is a full stride, the students can full stride push and bring their foot back to
center. Making sure to lean forward and bending the knee.
9) Have the students spread out after, and have them push off their legs sliding to their
sides side getting use to the their edges.

Learning Activity #1: : Bubble Skates and One legged hold


1) Students will working on what they have been working on the whole week. Working on
keep our feet on the ice but this time with both feet.
2) If the students progress enough they can try and do it backwards.
3) After the students do that twice the students will be asked to try and balance on one feet,
taking three strides and gliding on one foot.
4) The student can attempt to do this twice. Making sure to lean more forward than
backwards.
Learning Activity #2: After the skills
5) After doing the skills once or twice the teacher can have the students split into two
groups.
6) One side can play posts, while the other can have a free skate.
7) Bring a football or dodgeball for the students to throw around near the end of the lesson.

Closure (time: 3:20-3:28)


Walk the students back with the students so you can pick up the next class.
