Multi-Agency
Rope Training
While juggling calls for multiple
grass fires, vehicle fires, vehicle
accidents, and a gas leak in a
populated area of town, with some
calls occurring simultaneously,
members of the Glasgow/Long
Run Fire Departments, Valley
County Search and Rescue, and
VCSO finished a 40 hour life saving
rescue course. Throughout the
last few weekends 25 members
participated in rope rescue
training in the rain, cold, snow,
mud, and also some sunshine
and nice weather. This training
provides our community with the
ability to rescue patients who are
positioned in areas inaccessible
to rescuing without the assistance
of ropes and haul lines. Our
training covered off roadway
and backcountry rescues. The
training everyone received is an
immense leap in their ontinued
efforts to make Valley County
a safer place. If you happen to
see one our finest out and about
thank them for all their hard work
and dedication they put in every
day! At right, a Milk River bridge

Penguins second in Wolf Point

Despite all the bad weather Northeast Montana
had early this week the high schools were still able to get
in a track and field meet on Tuesday. Wolf Point hosted
the North East Montana Invitational with mostly Class
C teams participating.
Whitewater finished second in the girls race with
103 points with Scobey winning the meet with 116
points. Saco came in third with 86 points, Hinsdale fifth
with 50, Nashua seventh with 33 and Lustre Christian
eighth with 29.
Kelsee Cummings was the lone winner for
Whitewater with a 33-foot, 8.50-inch throw in shot
put. Nashua’s Tia Dees followed with a throw of 32-feet,
6-inches, Tiara Whitmus of Lustre was fourth with a
throw of 28-06.50, Mattea McColly fifth with a 28-05, and
Devon Fromdahl of Nashua sixth with a 28-03 throw.
But the Penguins had others placing well in other
events. Ava Hanley ran a 14.87 in the 100 for fourth
place. Kaitlyn McColly won the 100, running a time
of 13.92 seconds, Saco’s Josie Brown followed with a
time of 14.41, Alexa Reddig, Lustre’s freshman, was
third with a time of 14.67, and Nashua’s Hannah Toavs
was sixth with a time of 15.13. Brown won the 200,
running a time of 29.60 with Hanley finishing fourth
with a 31.05 and Reddig sixth with a 32.42. Whitewater
dominated the 400 with Paige Wasson taking third with
a time of 1:11.14, Kendall Scheffelmear fourth in a time
of 1:12.49, and Kora LaBrie sixth with a 1:12.44.
The Erickson sisters from Saco were 2-3 in the 800 with
Teague running a 2:38.80 and Jaycee a 2:44.18. Hinsdale’s
Cienna Strommen was sixth with a time of 3:21.97. Kia
Wasson, a senior from Whitewater, was second in the 1,600
and 3,200 with times of 5:53.70 and 12:48.44.
Hinsdale freshman Zora Holt finished fifth in
the 3,200 with a time of 13:37.66 and Whitewater’s
Samantha Washer sixth with a 13:46.40.
McColly won her second event of the day, running
a time of 16.33 to win the 100 hurdles. Ava Hanley was
third with a time of 18.36, Hannah Hanley followed
with a 19.85, and Reddig sixth with a 21.0. Ava Hanley
ran a 57.70 in the 300 hurdles for second and Hannah
Hanley followed with a time of 59.30.
In the 4X100 relay it was Whitewater coming
in third, running a time of 57.52 with LaBrie, Paige
Wasson, Ava Hanley, and Scheffelmear running a leg.
Nashua was fourth with a 59.96 with Hayden Adkins,
Fromdahl, Toavs, and Deja Morgan running and Lustre
sixth with a 1:02.96 with Aubri Holzrichter, Shiane
Birdsbill, Whitmus, and Reddig running a leg.
The Penguins also finished second in the 4X400
relay, running a time of 4:42.41. Whitmus won the
discus with a throw of 92-feet, 9-inches, Dees followed
with a throw of 88-04, Fromdahl third with an 84-06,
and Saco’s Abby Yeska fifth with a throw of 80-01.
Jaycee Erickson won the javelin, throwing the spear
103-feet, 3-inches. Hinsdale’s Zandora Longtree was
second with a throw of 98-04, Fromdahl fourth with an
85-09, and LaBrie sixth with a throw of 84-01.
Teague Erickson cleared the bar at 5-feet, 5-inches
to in the high jump with Scheffelmear coming in second
at 4-feet, 8-inches.
Kaitlyn McColly vaulted 9-feet, 6-inches to win
the pole vault, Jaycee Erickson followed with an 8-foot,
6-inch vault. Strommen went 6-06 for fourth and
Longtree 5-feet for fifth.
Teague Erickson also won the long jump, going 14-
feet, 10-inches with Reddig going 13-02.50 for third. In
the triple jump it was Jaycee Erickson winning with a
leap of 31-feet, 5.50-inches. Scheffelmear was second
at 28-08.50, Paige Wasson fourth at 27-10.50, and
Strommen sixth with a jump of 25-03.50.
Whitewater will host its invitational Friday with
the first event starting at 9 a.m.
