Standard W/L & E/L Rig Up Procedure

1. All the crews should follow safety instructions, and all personnel involved in the operation shall wear the appropriate
PPE.
2. No simultaneous operations permitted unless there is a SIMOP risk assessment done and approved.
3. The proper equipment should be prepared and tested onshore at the W/L workshop or company yard before
sending offshore. Before rigging up any equipment, review all test certificates for mast as well as pressure control
equipment.
4. Verify that pressure control equipment as well as all downhole equipment (cable / wire, tools…) are H2S rated (if
required).
5. Verify that the total length of lubricators shall allow sufficient height, above the upper well closing device, to contain
the complete tool-string including items pulled from the well.
6. A pre-job safety meeting should be held on location before starting the job to discuss the risk assessment, work
procedure and personal responsibilities during the job. All onsite personnel must sign the generic risk assessment
after discussion.
7. Ensure everyone is trained on his job skills, and is current on the required safety training (H2S, etc.) for the job.
8. Prior to initiating operations, check well for pressure and record same.
9. R/U mast and make sure that the tie-down cables are attached to pad eyes. A visual inspection of the raising and
lowering mechanism shall be made by the qualified person prior to raising or lowering the mast. In addition, hoisting
lines should be visually inspected at least once a day when in use.
10. Install Double Block and Bleed (DBB) manifold or block is installed with appropriate pressure gauge on top plug.
11. Counting turns, close the Upper Barrier Valve (commonly the SV or secondary SV). Then bleed-off pressure to 0psi
and inflow-test valve for 5mins.
 Acceptance Criteria:
Swab Valves 100psi / minute for test duration of 5mins (per GUPCO
Well Integrity Policy)
12. Close Lower Barrier Valve (commonly UMV) and open Upper Barrier
Valve. Then bleed-off pressure to 0 psi and inflow-test valve for 5 mins.
 Acceptance Criteria:
Lower & Upper Master Valves 100psi / 5mins (per GUPCO Well
Integrity Policy)
13. Close Upper Barrier Valve and bleed-off pressure to 0 psi above valve.
Monitor pressure for 5mins to demonstrate leak-tight seal (0 psi
pressure build-up per GUPCO Well Integrity Policy) with both barriers
closed before breaking containment.
Note: If barriers for breaking containment per GUPCO Well Integrity
Policy cannot be established, consult your team leader and Well
Integrity Team for guidance / advice.
14. LO/TO procedure should be applied (P/F supervisor only has the keys).
15. Shutdown the chemical pump and control fuel supply (air or gas) for this
well.
16. Remove the well hatch and place it far away from the rigging up area so that it is not a hazard.
17. Open the needle valve, reconfirm no pressure, then remove the top plug, connect the WL X-tree adapter sub to
the tree and install pressure control equipment plus lubricator.
18. District Engineering will classify the well as Self-Kill or Natural Flow in the program (see Well Data table). R/U
Pressure Control Equipment per the following requirements for the type of well:

Required Leak Test Procedure Required Required
Pressure test PCE after R/U USP or SIWHP LPT to 300psi
(whichever is higher) HPT to Max Flowing WHP x 1.25

Note: currently the W/L- Team is still sourcing sufficient number of Pump-in subs and 2” valves.
19. Pressure test the pressure control equipment per the requirements above.
20. The UMV must not be locked open with lock-out caps. The SSSV & UMV should be held open with hydraulic hand
pumps with a dedicated person responsible for monitoring the pressures during the job. The hydraulic hoses
connecting the hand pumps must be long enough to place the pumps in a safe, accessible location up-wind of
the well.
21. Pressure test hydraulic hoses for SSSV & UMV to 3500 psi for 15 min.
22. Function test UMV as well as BOP by opening with hand pump and then bleed off to confirm closure. Note
opening/closing pressure and closure time.
23. Open the SSSV then slowly open the Upper Master Valve (UMV). Confirm no bleed off on hand pump pressure.
Open swab valve and start RIH with BHA.
24. Any additional requirements for a specific well are listed in the program. The above steps are the minimum
standard requirements for each Slick line and E-Line job, unless a dispensation has been prepared and approved.
