Crude oil Distillation Systems

According to ASTM – standards for fractionation and boiling analysis.

Fully Automatic ASTM D2892

Turn Key Processor controlled crude oil distillation system for
fully automatic operation according to ASTM D-2892. Compact
design with control system and safety items for unattended
operation. No operator intervention and no intermediate stops are
required.
The distillation ensues automatically from the gas cut (IBP) to
the pre-selected end point without any interruptions and any
interventions. The yield calculation refers to the weight of the flask
charge. The weights of the fractions are detected by means of a
build in electronic balance prior to the discharge from the system
into the fraction collector. The system can alternatively be equipped
with a volume follower for volume detection. A data station for
overriding parameter input as well as for display and print-out of all
operation parameters, distillation results and TBP-curve, as well as
an external balance is included.
The system is modularly constructed and provides the
possibility to allow several options like water removal (prior to the
start of the distillation), stainless steel flasks, gas detector,
hydrogen sulfide-alarm and trap as well as a complete sheating of
the system. The TBP-curve will then be printed out in weight and
volume percent. All necessary accessories will be supplied together
with the system. The installation requires water, nitrogen,
compressed air and electricity.

Fully Automatic ASTM D5236
According to ASTM D-5236 (Standard Test Method for
Distillation of Heavy Hydrocarbon Mixtures, Vacuum Potstill
Method). The system is designed for unattended operation (during
the distillation), the safety devices are designed accordingly. Data
station for data input as well as for display and print out of all
operation parameters, distillation results and distillation curve. The
distillation ensues automatically from the start to the pre-selected
or detected end point.
The distillate volume is automatically recorded by means of an
integrated volume follower system. The volume is measured
separately on every individual receiver. The unit does not contain
any intermediate receiver i.e.: to avoid reblend of the distillate. The
volume calculation is expressed as percentage corresponding to the
weight and the volume of the flask charge or total recovery. The
distillation curve is printed out in weight and volume percent.
The fraction changes are carried out automatically, alternatively
according to a pre-selected boiling temperature or distillate volume
or when the receivers are filled up. The vacuum-tight fraction
collector contains 12 receivers with a capacity related to the flask
size. The boil up rate is controlled according to a pre-selected
distillation rate in ml/min. An accurate vacuum control guarantees
the required stability of the distillation pressure.

Fully Automatic ASTM D1160

Processor controlled Crude oil distillation system according to

ASTM D-1160. System for determination of boiling ranges of crude
oil products under vacuum in fully automatic operation.
The distillation is automatic, from the initial boiling point to the pre-
selected end boiling point or detected break-off. The criteria for
break-off are:
● the pre-selected final AET (atmospheric equivalent temperature)
is reached
● the maximum bath temperature is reached
● the maximum flask temperature is reached
● the pre-selected distillate volume is reached
● the flask insert cracks
● the distillate pressure drops
● product lack in the flask
The distillation volume is measured automatically in a
tempered receiver. The yield is calculated in percentage to the
charge quantity. Distillation report, final data and distillation curve
are printed out.

GAS & LPG SAMPLING SYSTEM

Gas & LPG sampling system

Analyzing gas and liquefied gas is often seen as problematic. The chosen sampling technique and
the ability of handling different kinds of gas at different pressure and physical appearance is
challenging to say the least. TE Instruments has developed the GLS, suitable of handling all sorts of
gases for the analysis of Total Chlorine, Sulfur and Nitrogen. It is perfectly suited to use together with
the TE Instruments XPLORER combustion system, but does an excellent job as a stand-alone gas
sampler with other combustion analyzers too.
Stand-alone

LIQUIDS SAMPLER X-Y-Z

TE Instruments robotic X-Y-Z liquids sampler lives up to its expectations

TE Instruments is proud to introduce our 105 positions robotic auto sampler, ARCHIE-105.
Unlike previous generation liquids samplers, the ARCHIE 105 uses a 100 µl syringe to
inject the sample with utmost precision into a vertical designed liquid module at controlled
speed, forming a perfect match with the XPLORER analyzer.
The ARCHIE 105 automatically picks up a sample from the assigned vial position and
delivers it to the liquids introduction module.
In between samples, it washes the syringe and needle, utilizing a special dual wash &
drain station tray, mounted beside the 105 sample tray. Next it picks up 100 µl from the
assigned sample vial to pre-rinse the syringe with the sample at hand.

VISCOSITY STANDARD

The Table below provides kinematic viscosity values for the General Purpose Viscosity Standards from CANNON Instrument
Company. CANNON certified standards are useful for calibration and verification procedures for all types of viscometers,
including glass capillary viscometers, rotational viscometers, falling ball viscometers, cup viscometers, and others. Calibration
or verification with a certified viscosity standard helps to ensure the reliability of measurements made with any viscometer.
AUTOMATED KINEMATIC VISCOMETER
Model : CAV 2000 Series

Designed for completely unattended operation, each CAV viscometer provides fully
automatic kinematic viscosity testing within parameters specified by ASTM D 445. The
CAV 2000 Series instruments measure flow rates within ±0.001 second by electronically
timing the liquid meniscus as it moves between thermistor sensors. Bath temperature is
controlled to an accuracy better than ±0.01°C at any selected temperature between
20°C and 100°C, and an accuracy better than ±0.03°C between and 100°C and 150°C
(high-temperature option required above 100°C), exceeding the precision requirements
of ASTM D 445. Thermal sensing technology ensures that dark or opaque liquids can be
measured with the same precision as transparent liquids.
Each CAV Bath Unit contains two viscometer tubes, each with a 100 fold kinematic
viscosity range (e.g., 1 to 100 cSt, 6 to 600 cSt, etc.). Fast-run tubes (10-fold range)
are also available for time-critical and/or high-throughput applications, A kinematic
viscosity range of 0.5 to 5000 cSt can be obtained within a single Bath Unit by selecting
two viscometers with complementary viscosity ranges. (see table for available tube
sizes).

SPECIFICATION :
Bath Unit Dimensions: 305 x 727 x 1245 mm, 12 x 35 x 49" (W x D x H)
Viscosity Range: 0.5 to 5000 cSt depending on viscometer tubes
Bath Temperature: Variable from 20°C to 100°C with an accuracy better than
0.01°C. High temperature bath option (up to 150°C, ± 0.03°C)
Drop Time Resolution: 0.01 seconds (timing accuracy to ±0.001 second)
Operating Conditions: 10%-90% RH non-condensing. Installation category II;
Pollution degree 2

COLD CRANKING SIMULATOR

CANNON Thermoelectrically-Cooled Cold-Cranking Simulators measure the apparent

viscosity of oils at temperatures from –35°C to –5°C with the CCS-2100 and –40°C to –
5°C with the CCS-2100LT within a viscosity range of 900 mPa•s to 25,000 mPa•s. The
CCS-2100/CCS-2100LT combines automatic sample loading, computer-controlled
operation, and solvent-free cleaning to permit completely unattended operation. No
further operator involvement is required after initial loading of the sample table and
identification of samples. The CCS-2100 will automatically test up to 30 samples at one
time, calculate their viscosities, and record the results, freeing the operator for other
tasks. Improved temperature management of the rotor/stator eliminates the need for
grouping the samples by temperature of analysis, as was necessary in older CCS
models. In addition, a thermoelectric sample warming cycle greatly improves the
sample flushing process. The CCS-2100 meets all the requirements of ASTM D 5293
and SAE J300.
The CCS-2100 models consist of a patented thermoelectrically-cooled rotor/stator, a
Sample Table with capacity for 30 oil samples, and an integral CCS Series II Controller.
The rotor/stator cell is attached to a vacuum system and a metering constant-
displacement injection pump. The rotor/stator cell is cleaned by purging the previously
measured sample with a portion of new sample prior to measuring its viscosity.

How EuroEA works. In line with dynamic Flash Combustion Principle, a continuous flow of Helium is assured in the analytical
circuit. Helium gas is split into carrier gas and TCD reference arm flow. Sample is dropped from the AutoSampler into the
reactor, together with synchronised injection of pressurised Oxygen provided by TurboFlash® optimal combustion: gases such
as NXOX, CO2, H2O, SO2/SO3 are the results of the combustion stage. Reduction step allows for elimination of the Oxygen
excess converting the gas mixture into N2, CO2, H2O, SO2. The gases are time separated by GC column in less than 5 minutes
with peaks detected by TCD. The entire operation is driven by Callidus Software downloading instrument parameters, setting
Oxygen volume as per optimal TurboFlash combustion. Well shaped, baseline separated peaks are then integrated and results
printed out in one of the report formats selected by the user. All AutoRuns are automatically archived.

SAMPLING SYSTEM TYPES

In-Line Automatic Sampling System

In-Line system has the gift of simplicity. Simplicity doesn’t mean poor results, rather it means:
top availability and dramatic cut in operational costs. In loading and unloading applications, the
in-line systems allow us to collect the sample right in the product custody transfer point.

FIRST-90 - In-Line, double receiver sampling system.

First-90 is our smallest sampling system but also one of the toughest. It can manage one sampling point and is
suitable for the harshest environments due to its Stainless Steel construction (it has been used in off-shore platforms,
terminals and refi neries). It can be managed locally or remotely by its dedicated SWIFT Sample Controller. A
DCS/SCADA interface is also available via Dry-Contacts or Modbus Interface for easy integration with customer’s
systems. Its modular structure allows managing one or two sample receivers with automatic change over and level
switches toavoid overfi ll.
To be compliant with the ISO3171/ API8.2 standard requirements, it can be equipped with loading cells whoseweight
reading can be used to calculate the Performance Factor.
Its compactness makes it suitable for applications where there is lack of space. It is available in a pneumatic version or
a completely electrical version when airpressure is not available.

Fast Loop Automatic Sampling System

This is the top solution when looking for a sampling system that evolves in an oil properties measurement lab.
Many instruments can be integrated in the fast loop. This mean that S&W analyzers, densitometers and other
on-line measurement devices can be added. In this case the fast loop solution is suggested; the integrated
solution is rapidly paid back.
Dynamic Mixing + Fast Loop Automatic Sampling System
It is the only solution if harsh product stratification conditions and critical line flow rate are unavoidable. In those
cases, the only way to get both adequate mixing and a representative sampling is to use a Dy-Mix system matched
with a fast-loop sampler.
We provide systems with as much as possible reduced maintenance and costs. Also mixing energy is engineered in
order to reduce mixing power to a minimum and therefore maintenance and operational costs.

EPASS - Electronic Portable Sampling System.

One of a kind, this portable system can be used when a fixed

system is not a viable solution (i.e. lack of space or infrequent
sampling
. operations). EPASS runs on batteries and can deliver up
to 48 hours of continuous sampling time, which can be easily
extended by replacing the batteries without losing the sampling
operation. It can be connected directly to the ship’s manifold with
his specifi c spool pieces. Up to four loading arms can be sampled
at the same time, and the system can record the Flow Rate,
Pressure and Temperature for each arm. The system can
accurately record the sample weight by using the electronic
weighing system, also used to calculate the Performance Factor
as per the ISO3171/API8.2 requirements. An easy-to-read
graphic display makes extremely easy to operate the system. Last
but not least, the system can also manage multi-grade sampling,
even when the product is unloaded randomly. A Report can be
retrieved directly from the sampling unit in PDF format, as well as
other exchange formats (i.e. Excel) with the use of a simple USB
pen drive.

LUBE OIL TEST KITS

SPECIFICATIONS :
This test kit consists of five different tests which enables marine engineers to
test engine oils, gear oils, hydraulic oils, etc. on board and in a relatively short
time. The tests are simple and provide information on the most important
parameters of used oils and the results obtained are a reliable source of
information for the responsible engineer to judge the condition of the oil.
The five tests involved are:
* Viscosity - check on :
1. correct viscosity grade
2. fuel dilution
3. contamination
* TBN value - check on
1. additive degradation
2. additive depletion
3. oilgrade
* Water content - check on
1. water leakages lube oil separator
2. operation contamination
* Nature of water - check on salt, brackish or fresh water
* Blottertest - check on insoluble contaminants like soot and other combustion
products

VISCOSITY TEST FOR LUBRICANTS

The Visgage checks oil viscosity on site, without a thermometer or

stopwatch. The Visgage can be used to check any oil from a light spindle oil to
heavy gear oil. The principle of operation is simple. It is based on comparing
the viscosity of an oil sample with an oil of known viscosity. The viscosity
reading is made directly in Centistokes at 40ºC, at room temperature 27ºC. An
accuracy of 95% or better is easily achieved when making tests with the
Visgage. A careful operator in the field can test very accurate and much faster
than most commercial laboratories, especially when results are needed
immediately, like on board vessels.
DENSITY TEST KIT

Zematra manufactures a density unit which is fully in accordance with the

specifications as mentioned in ASTM D1298 and IP 160. The sample is poured into a
density tube and this tube is then placed in a thermostatic controlled heater column to
heat up the sample to 50ºC. After checking the temperature a hydrometer is placed in
the sample. Together with the hydrometer reading and a graph, one can now
determine the density of the sample (fuel oil or lube oil) at 15ºC.
The density unit of Zematra consists of the following equipment:
- Density heater (thermostatic controlled heater column)
- ASTM 12C thermometer
- 4 hydrometers, range from 0,850 - 1.050 kg/cm3
- 2 density tubes
- graph
