WHERE WE ARE IN PLACE AND TIME

“People use maps to explore and navigate different parts of the world ”
Lines of inquiry:

-Physical geography around the world (Form)


-The evolution of maps (Change)
-Purpose and importance of navigation (Function)

Duration : 5 weeks
What I learn in this theme
 First Part
The students find out the information about geography, maps and navigation. They
will recall the information about physical geography in the world also have some
questions and answer session related with the topic. (Form)
 Second Part
The students will do research through reading books, articles, and some other
resources to define the reason behind the evolution of the map, then explain and
present their understanding with their own words through show and tell video
project. They will find out as well how map discovered, get new learning experience
and vocabularies about maps and navigation. (Change)
 Third Part
The students will develop their understanding of the importance of maps and
navigation. They are expected to realize how people nowadays including them get
benefit in applying this knowledge in their daily basis. (Function)

The objectives are:


 The students are required to recall or review some information related with physical
geography around the world. (Research skill).
 The students are required to know the evolution, the function and the importance of
maps and navigation. (Thinking skill).
 The students are required to be independence students to get new knowledge then
apply it in their daily basis properly. (Self-management skill).
The activities that the students are going to do:
 Class discussions – accurate use of unit vocabulary, comments which show understanding of
unit concepts, student’s reasoning for categorizations
 Illustrations – Detail which shows understanding of physical geography, maps and navigation
 Think/Pair/Share – productivity, cooperation, discussions using relevant details, stay on
topic, knee to knee, eye-to-eye
 Class Chart - Responding to Read Alouds – identify connections to their own lives
 Class Graphic organizers – accurate understanding of waste and pollution
 Songs and poems – active participation
 Oral presentations – Accurate representation of topic
 Circle Time – participation, active listening, attention, appropriate vocabulary, complete
sentences, staying on topic
 Craft Activities – fine motor, stay on topic, follow directions, stay on task, appropriate use of
materials and supplies

Week 1 Recalling information about Physical geography around the world


Students discuss about:

 What physical geography is


 The characteristics of physical geography
Week 2 and 3 Evolution of map
Students discuss about:

 What map is
 The function and the form of map
 Evolution of map time to time
Week 4 Purpose and the importance of navigation
Students discuss about:
 What navigation is
 The types of navigation
 The purpose of navigation
 Summative assessment
Week 5 Review and self- reflection
Students will do:
 Review the theme
Self-reflection – (Students discuss and reflect what they have done)
