Question#1(10 Marks)

3-6. Sketch the circuit diagram of a sequential control system with the following features.
a. Motor starter 1 M is energized by pressing a momentary contact start switch.
a. Motor starter 1 M can be de-energized only by pressing a momentary contact stop
switch.
3-7. Modify the circuit diagram of Exercise 6 to include the following additional features.
a. Limit switch 1L must be closed before the start switch can energize the motor
starter 1 M.
b. Either opening limit switch 1L or pressing the stop switch can de-energize motor
starter 1 M.
3-8. Modify the circuit diagram of Exercise 6 to include the following additional
features.
a. Limit switch 1L must close before the start switch can energize the motor starter
I M.
b. Opening limit switch 1L cannot deenergize the motor starter. The motor starter 1 M
can be deenergized only by pressing a momentary contact stop switch.
3-9. Sketch the circuit diagram of a sequential control system with the -following
features.
a. A hydraulic cylinder is operated by a two-position, four-way valve.
b. A 15-horsepower electric motor is controlled by a motor starter.
c. An interlock is provided so that the hydraulic cylinder cannot operate unless the 15-
horsepower motor starter is energized.
Question#2( 10 Marks)

1. Draw a ladder diagram rung similar to Figure 1-30 that will cause a
lamp L5 to illuminate when relay contacts CR1 is ON, CR2 is OFF,
and CR3 is OFF.

2. Draw a ladder diagram rung that will cause a lamp L7 to be OFF when
relay CR2 is ON or when CR3 is OFF. L7 should be ON at all other
times. (Hint: Make a table showing all the possible states of CR2 and
CR3 and mark the combinations that cause L7 to be OFF. All those not
marked must be the ones when L7 is ON.)

3. Draw a ladder diagram rung similar to Figure 1-30 that will cause relay
CR10 to energize when either CR4 and CR5 are ON, or when CR4 is
OFF and CR6 is ON. Then add a second rung that will cause lamp L3
to illuminate 4 seconds after CR10 energizes.
Question#3( 10 Marks)
State the conditions for coil CR1 will be ENERGIZED in the ladder shown in Fig.
2-7.

8. Construct a typical logic circuit that indicates the condition of doors on a heating
oven for painting process. The oven has two doors that both must be closed during
the heating process. A fan must also be running before the electric heating coils
can be energized . A limit switch is mounted near each door to indicate if the door
is open or closed. A flow switch is mounted near the fan to indicate if the fan is
moving air. If both doors are closed and the start switch is turned on, the coil of
control relay CR1 will become energized. .when NO contacts of CR1 close , the fan
motor will be energized causing the fan motor will be energized causing the fan to
move enough air to close the switch. When the fan switch closes, the electric
heating element will begin to draw current and heat the oven.
