The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is an ancient Chinese fortification, built and rebuilt between
the 5th century BC. C. and the sixteenth century to protect the northern border of the
Chinese Empire during the successive imperial dynasties from the attacks of the
Xiongnu nomads of Mongolia and Manchuria.
It is a symbol of power. It represents the unification of China, because it was united
with each other as China was first unified in the Qin dynasty (221-206 BC). It
represents the impressive ability of the Chinese to work together for the good of the
country.
The wall was seven or eight meters high, reaching ten at some points, with a width of
seven meters at the base and six at the crest. Basically, its structure consisted of a
long rammed clay and sand wall covered with several brick walls that made it very
resistant.
Less than 90 kilometers from Beijing and, although it is one of the most popular areas,
it is not as crowded as Badaling.

The vote was recorded via the internet on the organization's digital platform with an
email or text message that the participants could not use more than once. Millions of
votes were registered and of the 200 monuments that were suggested, the 21 favorite
candidates were chosen; the voting was subsequently carried out.

Once the results were obtained, the 7 most voted works were announced to the world
on the 7th day of the 7th month (July) of the year 2007, in a live ceremony given at
Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon (Portugal) .

The finalists were: Christ the Redeemer (Brazil), Machu Picchu (Peru), Great Wall
(China), Petra, (Jordan), Taj Mahal (India), Coliseum of Rome (Italy), Chichén Itzá
(Mexico).
