Question 2 (30 marks)

You recently attended an online forum organised by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
During the discussion, one of the speakers claimed that spending too much time on
social media has ruined personal relationships. State whether you agree or disagree on
the claim that spending too much time on social media has ruined personal
relationships. Explain your answer in about 300 words.

Nowadays, the usage of social media is widespread all over the world including
Malaysia. Many people use social media through variety of devices, and it can lead for the
use of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and WhatsApp to expand. Then, I
partially agreed with the statement that spending too much time on social media has ruined
personal relationships.

First, the social media also have the own good sides such us people can stay
connected with their loved one using social media anytime. Even for a long time or long
distance, people use this platform to connect with everybody and it can strengthen the
relationship between them when they spend more time on it. It is accepted that, the more
someone contributes their times to their loved ones, the strengthen the relationship is.

A part of that, people can also use social media to entertain themselves between one
another especially their friends. For an example, by using Rave apps, they can watch movies
with their friends even they are apart. This apps helps people to interact with one another
with giving their opinion and showing the reaction towards the movie. Therefore, using the
Rave in a long period can train people to communicate and get to know with another people
including foreigners.

However, spending too much time on social media can also cause the side effect with
the personal relationship like degrading another people. For an example, when they spend to
much time on social media such as Facebook, they will have the confident to put a comment
in someone post. Therefore, they will put a negative comment the post of their friends and
start to create a barrier between them.

In the conclusion, there are good and dark effect with their personal relationship when
people use social media constantly. People need to be smart on using social media to avoid
the dark side from happening.
