REFLECTIVE JOURNAL CASE 2

The Delivery Room Technique is a skill that every student nurse must practice and master. It is a
technique that starts from the moment the client experiences active labor until the recovery stage. The
purposes of this technique are strengthening the client's coping with active labor and transition,
promote comfort, provide a safe environment for both the client and newborn, and promote initial
mother and child bonding. During this procedure, we must always practice the use of the aseptic
technique to prevent infections to both mother and newborn. It is also important to take
documentation of the different assessments and procedures made, such as the APGAR score, that
assesses the newborn's adjustment to the external environment.

The video was very informative and detailed, which made it very understandable. It also teaches
the different techniques during labor such as Ritgen's Maneuver and how to cut off the umbilical cord
correctly. I was able to follow the steps well because they were explained in a very detailed manner, and
the models used were very realistic.

In order for me to remember and practice the procedure, I tried to follow the steps by being
resourceful and using dolls. However, I still believe I would be able to practice the procedure more if I
would be able to perform it on a realistic model, like the one used in the video.
