Day 1
IAM, TWU and Cross Utilization

Tech Ops has two separate labor unions until a JCBA (Joint Collective Bargaining
Agreement) is reached.

IAM – International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, who

represent Legacy US Airways (LUS) employees

TWU – Transport Workers Union, who represent Legacy American Airlines

(LAA) employees

CLT is a completely IAM station while other stations like DCA have both IAM and
TWU.

Although some work rules are different between the two contracts, they are both
covered under the same pay rates in the Interim Wage Agreement.

The Interim Wage Agreement and Cross Utilization allows mechanics from either
union to perform work on any fleet they are qualified on, regardless of the legacy
metal. However, this does not allow management to assign work on the same task
to 2 different unions.

• Attending to personal obligations and affairs outside of working hours
• Correcting problems that prevent coming to work
• Not abusing the sick leave benefit
• Reporting to work on time and remaining there for their scheduled shift

Supervisor Responsibilities - IAM

As Absences are recorded, the supervisor will analyze the causes and quantity of absences to
determine if action should be taken. Action should be taken when:

• A clear pattern of absences is established. A pattern of absence can be absences in

conjunction with scheduled days off, absences on shift swaps, absences on particular days
of the week or absences on holidays or other annual events
• Absence occurrences reach a numerical threshold
• Abuse or fraud of sick leave benefit occurs

Employee attendance records should be reviewed after every absence occurrence and may
include a conversation with the employee to let them know that their health and attendance
are important

4/23/21
Day 5
38
IAM Progressive Counseling – Attendance Track

For purposes of Progressive Discipline, attendance is maintained on a separate disciplinary

track from an employee’s performance/conduct issues. This means that an employee cannot
be advanced on the Progressive Discipline Program when an attendance problem occurs, or
vice-versa. When looking at the discipline track for attendance, the stages are similar to
those of the Progressive Discipline program.

Counseling (non-disciplinary)
1. Verbal Warning – effective for 12 months of active service
2. Written Warning – effective for 12 months of active service
3. Final Written/Suspension Warning with 1 day unpaid suspension – effective for 12
months of active service
4. Termination
ANY OCCURANCE OF LATE OR LOST TIME COULD RESULT IN TERMINATION FOR ANY
EMPLOYEE ON PROBATION.

IF YOU TRAVEL DURING TRAINING AND CANNOT GET BACK TO TRAINING ON TIME YOU
ARE SUBJECT TO TERMINATION.

Day 5
39
TWU Employee Responsibilities

Your attendance record will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine whether your
record meets Company standards. Your record may be considered unsatisfactory due to
several late arrivals, a combination of late arrivals and unpaid absences, sick leave abuse, “no
call” or a combination of these reasons. A member of management will counsel you after
each occurrence.

It is important for you to understand your responsibility to report to work as scheduled. In

addition to the Company’s rules of Conduct you should”

• Report any errors in attendance records to a Manager promptly

• Call in if you expect to be late or absent as far in advance of your scheduled shift as
possible

ANY OCCURANCE OF LATE OR LOST TIME COULD RESULT IN TERMINATION FOR ANY
EMPLOYEE ON PROBATION.

IF YOU TRAVEL DURING TRAINING AND CANNOT GET BACK TO TRAINING ON TIME YOU
ARE SUBJECT TO TERMINATION.

Day 5
40
Supervisor Responsibilities - TWU

If you fail to correct unsatisfactory attendance you will be issued the following Corrective
Action Steps:

2. Second Step Advisory Letter
3. Final Step Advisory Letter

When your unsatisfactory attendance record includes paid sick absences and you have a
Sick Bank balance, a Doctor’s Slip Requirement for suspected abuse will be issued prior to
the issuance of any Advisory Step. Due to certain requirements under law, employees
based in Puerto Rico will not have their sick pay withheld when a Doctor’s Slip is not
provided.

Advisory letters in effect for two (2) years after they are issued

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Use hearing protection near operating aircraft engines and other industrial areas
where the sound levels are more than 85 decibels.

B. The most used hearing protection is the Hearing Protector ear muff (PROXO29). As a
result of high use, wear-out and breakage are common. Although new assemblies are
available, four critical sub-components are stocked under the Manufacturer Part
Numbers (MPN) shown in Table 13.01-1. These numbers are given for those stations
that repair their own protectors.
