“I'll Do It! - Taking Responsibility” and Responsibility Four Corners

This classic picture book explains to young children why it's good to be
a responsible person. From keeping their room tidy, making their own
bed to looking after younger siblings and pets and taking care of their
possessions, like their PE kit.

This book encourages children to take responsibility for themselves and

their actions. Situations include doing a few small jobs around the
house and looking after a younger brother or sister. The book looks at
the good effects that result from being sensible and responsible both at
home and at school.

While reading the book:

Have fun with your students! Use voice inflection as a way to draw them in and hold their attention. Make
them feel each character’s thoughts by the tone of your voice. Encourage students to ask questions and
predict what will happen next in the story.

Activity:
Divide white board into four sections:

The Classroom Olympics

This game is going to be teaching the students how to be responsible and take care of their classroom
● Divide the class into two teams
● Only one or two representatives from one team will go up for a game. The teams will take turns
between games sending up representatives
● Make it fun, come up with fun names for the games and encourage students to get in their teams
to talk “strategy” and come up with a team name and/or a team chant.
● The tasks are going to be timed to see how fast they can clean up certain areas in the classroom.
Feel free to add your own tasks, there are some ideas listed below.
○ Organizing the star charts
○ Organizing the bookshelves
○ Organizing the pencil boxes
○ Organizing the shelves
● Record the students times on the board
● At the end, give everyone a responsibility medal
Flocabulary: Self Compassion

All week we have been working on self compassion by acknowledging all of things
about ourselves that are positive. But today we are going to talk about what we can do
when the negative thoughts come from within

Flocabulary:
● Watch the video all the way though
● Pull up lyrics and play the video again and let the kids sing along
Questions (Before or after the video):
● What does it mean to show compassion?
● What are some ways you show compassion to others?
● Do you show yourself compassion? (give examples: When you get an answer
wrong on your test how do you react?)
Activity: Pop the negative though:
● Dismiss students back to their seats
● Explain that we are going to be practicing how to pop the negative thoughts in
our heads
● Make sure students are in their seats before you spread the balloons out
● Allow students to come up in groups of 2 to 3 allow them to pick up two balloons
they feel resonates with them
● Let them pop the balloons and read the positive affirmation inside
● Once they read them they can go back to their seats and the next group can go
up
● And they will keep going until all the balloons are popped
