ENGL 2010 Reflection Paper

In order to succeed in an online course, I have learned that I need to utilize the calendar

in Canvas. Some classes don’t automatically upload due dates into the Canvas calendar and

those assignments I manually add to the calendar. What I’ve found in utilizing it is that I need to

look at the calendar every Sunday evening and see what I’ve got to finish in the upcoming

week; I then look at where I can add assignments that don’t load in the calendar into days that

spread my work out evenly (this means doing assignments before their due date sometimes).

This way I don’t feel overwhelmed usually and I’m able to get some “self-care time” during the

week to help keep me unstressed.

Spreading my assignments out is very important for me. I hate getting to a day and

having a ton of assignments due, so by spreading it out I don’t get overwhelmed and I keep my

workload very manageable. This means keeping myself motivated when I get to a day that

doesn’t necessarily have an assignment due, but finishing an assignment I’ve planned to turn in.

I’ve also found that keeping my mornings open has been helpful. I wake up and after my

wife leaves for work, I dedicate the entire morning to homework. If I have some kind of

commitment, whether it be a photoshoot or some kind of appointment, I try to schedule it in

the afternoon. Ideally I usually spend all morning and afternoon on homework and then let

myself relax in the evenings and practicing guitar, spend time with family or rehearse with my

band.

So overall, the most important thing for me is time management and the Canvas

calendar is my most utilize tool in online school for that.
