Identification System for Power Plants KKS
Establishments for Combined-Cycle Power
Plants (GUD®)

Purpose and Scope of Supply

As the Guidelines for KKS Application do not contain all the rules necessary for each individual project,
these establishments provide clear instructions as to how the KKS system should be applied to
combined-cycle power plants (GUD®).
These establishments refer to the Guidelines for KKS Application (Edition 1994), compendium of ”Estab-
lishments between the Parties to the Project” to be made on a project-specific basis, page 36 and 37.

According to the scope of supply of the Identification System for Power Plants KKS, these establish-
ments are divided into:
• General establishments
• Establishments for the allocation on process-related codes
• Establishments for the allocation of “point of installation“ identifiers
• Establishments for the allocation of location identifiers

General establishments

1. Changes to KKS designations

Changes to KKS designations are only possible as long as the content of the new designations stays
the same.

2. Rules governing numbering systems and direction of numbering for all numbering code
elements
The principles established in the Guidelines for KKS Application apply. An application-specific logic
will be established for the specific engineering disciplines.

3. Rules relating to breakdown level 0

Breakdown level 0 (overall plant) shall not be used.

4. Rules on spacing for code notation

In all cases where the code is needed in the scope of operations management and associated docu-
mentation, the small spacing shall be used as defined in the Guidelines for KKS Application, page 26,
with the restriction that breakdown level 0 shall not be used and the prefix number F0 of breakdown
level 1 shall be used as a 2-digit data character. The space between the first two data characters
shall be omitted (see also Section 7).

Example: · for component key =11MAB10 AP001 KP01

· for location +00UMA01 01

In all other cases the code may be written with or without spacing but in such a way that it cannot be
misinterpreted.

5. Allocation of unreserved classifying code elements which are freely available for
use (F1, F2, F3)
Non-listed code elements (F1 - F3) may only be used by agreement with the Power Generation KKS
Liaison Officers and have to be included in the project-specific establishments for KKS application.
All code elements (F1, F2, F3) must always be written.

Establishments for the allocation on process-related codes

(codes preceded by prefix symbol “=”)

6. Use of data characters in process-related identification

The use of breakdown levels and data character fields shall be in accordance with Section 3.1 of the
Guidelines for KKS Application.
Exceptions for combined-cycle power plants (GUD®):
· breakdown level 0, and consequently the data character field designated “G”, are omitted
· in breakdown level 1, the prefix number F0 shall be used as a 2-digit data character
Data character F0 is always written. Data character A3 is only written if required, although the space
for this data character must be retained.

7. Use of the two F0 data character fields in the identification system

These two data character fields (also known as the prefix number fields) serve to number similar sys-
tems or facilities. They constitute a valid component of the overall identifier only if followed by a key
(alphabetical characters) with which a text-designated system or facility has been encoded.

Structure of breakdown level 1 of the partial identifier mask for GUD® power plants:

Breakdown level 1
Designation of data character F0 F1 F2 F3 FN
Permitted entry NN AAA NN

Prefix number for numbering of similar

or identical systems or facilities

Alphabetical key for the classification

of systems or facilities

Numbering subdivision of systems and facilities

for subdivision into subsystems and sections of facilities

Combined-cycle power plants (GUD®) are generally constructed from modules which are combined to
form process units, and ultimately the combined-cycle power plant (GUD®) itself.
The prefix number should be allocated in accordance with the requirements of optimum computer-aided project
processing (based on modules and/or process units), such that a repeatedly recurring system or facility need be
encoded only once; it may later be duplicated by provision of the prefix number.

The allocation of the prefix number applies to the following rules:

• Systems or facilities which occur twice within a process unit are provided with the unit number
as first digit and an identification character „1“ or „2“ as second digit of the prefix number
• Systems or facilities which occur once within a process unit as superordinate (single) items
only are provided with the unit number as first digit and „0“ as second digit of the prefix number
• Systems or facilities which occur once or more in the superordinate level (block) of the overall
plant are provided with „0“ as first digit of the prefix number. The second digit will be a consecu-
tive figure for similar systems and facilities starting with „1“
• Systems or facilities which occur as superordinate items in the overall plant are provided with
„00“ as prefix number

The two prefix numbers are depending on the overall plant configuration (e.g. multi unit plants). It has to be
documented in the 'Project-specific establishments according to the Guidelines for KKS Application', if
any other prefix numbers than the standard prefix numbers above are used.

8. Rules for entries in the FN numbering data character field

The numbering system in the FN data character field of breakdown level 1 has basically the following
functions:
1. Subdivision of a process system or facility into different trains (division into units of availability
within a system or facility).
Please note: This establishes and reflects the parallelism of functions which exists within a sys-
tem or facility. This demarcation should not be confused with the prefix-based num-
bering system which is designed to enable reproduction of a unit (a distinct system
or facility) within the overall plant.
Where the subdivision of a system or facility into trains is regarded as the chief priority, these
separate subsystems and facility sections are numbered by the decimal FN character. A "0" (zero)
is entered as the final numeric character in the FN data character field.
2. Subdivision of a process system or facility into different sections (vertical division within a system
or facility, e.g. in the direction of material flow) where each system section or facility section
formed represents a separate functional element in the overall function of the facility or system.
If the subdivision of a system or facility into different sections is regarded as a the chief priority, the
separate system/facility sections are numbered by the decimal FN character. A "0" (zero) is en-
tered as the final numeric character in the FN data character field.
3. Subdivision of a separate system/facility train into either trains (from the viewpoint of the overall
system, the overall facility = sub-trains) or into train sections.
If this further subdivision is thought advisable when encoding the facility, the separate subsystems
or sections of a system/facility train are numbered by the final numeric character in the FN data
character field. The decimal FN character now represents the system/facility train which has been
subdivided into smaller units.
4. Subdivision of a separate system/facility section into either sections (from the viewpoint of the
overall system, the overall facility = sub-sections) or into section trains.
If this further subdivision is thought advisable when encoding the facility, the separate subsystems
or subsections of a system/facility section are numbered by the final numeric character of the FN
data character field. The decimal FN character now represents the system/facility section which
has been subdivided into smaller units.

9. Rules governing entries in the AN numbering data character field

For the AN numbering of valves (AA . . .), piping (BR . . .) and measuring circuits (C. . . .) the following
numbering logic is used:

Number Valves AA... Pipes BR... Measuring circuits C....

range
valves in main pipes:
001 - 100 - valves, general main pipes binary and analog
telemetering
101 - 190 - control valves / dampers
191 - 199 - safety valves suction and pressure relief
lines on safety valves
201 - 250 check valves 1)
not used for testing equipment
251 - 299 manual valves 1)
301 - 399 isolating equipment for pressure lines for not used
measuring measurement
401 - 499 valves in drains and drains, flushing pipes, acceptance test
flushing pipes pressure suppression pipes
501 - 599 valves for venting vents local measuring circuits
601 - 699 valves for sampling sampling and not used
and proportioning proportioning pipes
701 - 799 valves for internal controls internal instrument lines blocked
801 - 899 not used not used blocked
901 - 999 not used not used grouped measuring circuits (e.
g. multipoint selector switches,
multi-channel
recorders)

1)
Only for valves with KKS function key (F1) = Main Machine sets (*M*) and Heavy Machinery (*X*)

As shown in the matrix, specific functional statements for valves (AA…), pipes (BR…) and measuring
circuits (C….) are encoded in the first of the three AN data character fields.
The numbering in the 2nd and 3rd data character fields starts again from zero once one of the previous
identifier components changes. In process systems or facilities, numbering should proceed in as-
cending order in the direction of medium/material flow.
Reserve numbering capacity should be provided for, particularly in the case of valves and direct
measuring equipment, so that numbering can still proceed in ascending order in the direction of me-
dium flow even where plans are changed, backfitting is performed, etc. Leading zeros must be in-
cluded in the entries.

10. Rules governing entries in the A3 data character field

The rules laid down in the Guidelines for KKS Application, Section 3.1.2, shall apply.
Examples demonstrating the use of the of the A3 data character field can be found in the Engineering
Discipline Specific Application Commentaries, Part B1, Section 3.2.3.
In the case of pilot valves, it is advisable to provide an entry in the A3 data character field which indi-
cates unequivocally their relationship with the main valve. It is recommended that the letters "A", "B"
and "C" are used as pilot valve identifiers in the A3 data character field.
External, binary position measuring equipment is encoded in the same way as pilot valves. The posi-
tion indicator receives the same identification character in the equipment unit entry (AN data character
field) as the main valve. The letters "A", "B" and "C" shall not be used in the A3 data character field as
position measuring/indicating equipment identifiers.

11. Rules governing entries in the BN data character field for component numbering
The rules laid down in the Guidelines for KKS Application, Section 3.1.3 shall apply with the exception
of the general rules relating to the numbering system. Examples of BN numbering can be found in the
General Application Commentaries, Part A, Section 3.1.3.2, and in the Engineering Discipline Specific
Application Commentaries, Part B1, Section 3.3.2.

12. Rules governing the identification of supports in the field of mechanical engineering
As a rule, supports within a mechanical engineering context should be encoded on the basis of an en-
try in breakdown level 1 which represents a plant section ( = building section). The relevant classifica-
tion key attribute to be entered in the A1A2 data character field is "BQ" ( = support).
Identifier mask for supports in the field of mechanical engineering:

Breakdown level 1 2
Designation of data character F0 F1 F2 F3 FN A1 A2 AN A3
Permitted entry NN UAA NN BQ NNN N

inside which the supports are numbered.
The entry in the F1 field is "U" ( = building structures)

Classification key for supports from

the equipment unit key index

The AN and A3 data character fields should be

viewed as a single group. The A3 entry is always a digit.
Supports are provided with a 4-digit numerical
identifier (leading zeros must be entered)
within the AN/A3 block denoted in breakdown level 1

13. Rules governing the identification of mechanical (process) systems which supply the main
process
The rules laid down in the Guidelines for KKS Application, Section 5.4.3, shall apply for the encoding of mechani-
cal supply systems. Examples can be found in the Engineering Discipline Specific Application Commentaries,
Part B1, Section 3.1.1.3.

14. Rules governing the identification of system-interfacing analog signal processing

The rules laid down in the Guidelines for KKS Application, Section 5.6.3.1, shall apply. Examples can
be found in the Engineering Discipline Specific Application Commentaries, Part B4.

15. Rules governing the classification and numbering of signals and signal applications in break-
down level 3
Signals are entered in the B1 data character field as "X", and signal applications as "Y".
The classification key used in combined-cycle power plant (GUD®) systems for the structure of signal
identifiers and signal application identifiers, and also the regulations explaining the use of the BN data
character fields in the structure of the classification key, are stipulated in a separate procedure.

(identifiers preceded by "+")

16. Use of data characters in point of installation identification

The use of breakdown levels, and also the number of data character fields per breakdown level, shall
be as indicated in Section 3.2 of the Guidelines for KKS Application. The use of the basic identifier
mask is dependent on the type and manufacturer of the cabinets (mounting unit types) installed for
the electrical and I & C equipment.
Exceptions at combined-cycle power plants (GUD®):
· breakdown level 0, and consequently the data character field designated "G", are omitted
· in breakdown level 1, the prefix number F0 shall be used as a 2-digit data character

17. Use of two F0 data character fields in the identification system

(See Section 7 above)

18. Rules governing entries in the FN data character fields for the numbering of installation units
in breakdown level 1
An "installation unit" is the result of the topographic view onto electrical and I&C systems/sub-systems
denoted by the prefix "=". The fact that it is an identifier based on a topographical view is indicated by
the entry following the prefix "+" being identical to the entry following the prefix "=".
For related information and general rules, see Section 8 above.
· The FN numbering code after the F1F2F3 facility key advances consecutively. The delineated overall plant is
generally entered as "00" (double zero).
· Viewed from the front (e.g. operating side), the direction of numbering and the numbering sequence for facility
sections/subsystems (control desks, panels, bays, cabinets) within the overall plant proceeds from left to right.

19. Rules governing the further subdivision of installation units according to installation spaces
The various installation spaces are identified in breakdown level 2 using the installation unit identifi-
ers.
The entries in breakdown level 2 depend on the types and the manufacturers of installation units used
in the project.

Establishments for the allocation of location identifiers

(identifiers preceded by "+")

20. Use of data characters in location identification

The use of data characters shall be in accordance with Section 3.3 of the Guidelines for KKS Applica-
tion.
Exceptions at combined-cycle power plants (GUD®):
· breakdown level 0, and consequently the data character field designated "G", are omitted
· in breakdown level 1, the prefix number F0 shall be used as a 2-digit data character
· data characters A1, A2 and A3 are not to be used

21. Use of the two F0 data character fields in the identification system
(See Section 7 above. A prefix number is entered here before the F1F2F3 building/structure key.)

22. Rules governing F3 subgroups

The F3 subgroups are established in the KKS Edition valide for the specific project. Deviations have to
be documented in the 'Project-specific establishments according to the Guidelines for KKS Applica-
tion'.

Identification System for Power Plants KKS
Establishments for Combined-Cycle Power
Plants (GUD®)

23. Rules governing entries in the FN numbering data character fields for installation area
identifiers
An "installation area" is the result of the topographical view onto electrical and I&C systems/sub-
systems denoted by the prefix "=". The fact that it is an identifier based on a topographical view is in-
dicated by the entry following the prefix "+" being identical to the entry following the prefix "=".
As buildings/structures are generally subdivided into separate floors, attention should be paid to the
following points:
All main floors and all main service platforms are provided with a floor number following the F1F2F3
building/structure key, i. e. identifiers for building/structure floors are assigned in breakdown level 1.
Individual "floors" or "platforms" with small height differentials are not provided with separate identifi-
ers; they are merged as a "main" floor. The direction of numbering in an overall building/structure pro-
ceeds vertically from bottom to top. Numbering is consecutive, beginning with 01 for the bottom floor
in an overall building/structure.

24. Rules governing the further subdivision of an installation area into installation locations
(rooms)
The established identification of rooms by numbering shall be applied.
Different rooms are identified and delineated by an entry in breakdown level 2 which is based on the
identifier for an area (floor) in breakdown level 1.
The room is identified in AN by 2 numerical data characters; leading zeros must be entered. The base
point for the numbering system is the point of intersection of the lowest values for the numerical and
alphabetical building structure axes. Rooms on each floor are numbered consecutively in ascending
numerical order starting from 01 at the base point, and then following the course of the main service
corridors.

25. Rules governing the identification of individual substructures combined to form one
structure
Not applicable for combined-cycle power plants (GUD®).

26. Rules governing the identification of duct and bridge structures serving as connecting
structures
Bridge and duct structures which provide a connection between two other buildings/structures are as-
signed a structure group identifier in F1F2. In F3 the identifiers Y (for bridge structure) or Z (for duct
structure) are entered.
Example:
UHY Bridge structure between *UHA* and *UMB/UMA*
UGY Bridge structure between *UGD* and *UMB*
