COURSE CODE / COURSE NAME DJJ40153 PNEUMATIC AND HYDRAULICS

COURSEWORK ASSESSMENT PRACTICAL TASK 3

JABATAN KEJURUTERAAN MEKANIKAL SESSION JUN2020

NAME MARKS 10
DURATION 2 HOURS
REGISTRATION NO. CLO3 P4

PROGRAMME/SECTION TOTAL MARKS 10

1.0 EXPERIMENT OUTCOME

At the end of this lab activities, students will be able to:-
o Identify Hydraulic components.
o Explain the function of pressure and flow control at the hydraulic system.
o Construct the basic hydraulic circuit.

2.0 THEORY
Hydraulic systems apply fluids/oils to generate force and motion. Hydraulic
used wisely in the construction area and known as mobile hydraulic. In modern
production industries, hydraulic was apply as a working system for the heavy
processes such as punching, stamping and metal cutting.

In the Mobile hydraulic system, it is used to move on wheels such as forklift

and bulldozer. A characteristic feature for mobile hydraulic is that the system
normally controls by manual and besides that, the stationary hydraulic system control
by a solenoid or electrical devices.

3.0 APPARATUS/EQUIPMENT
3.1 Hydraulic power pack
3.2 1 unit of pressure relief valve
3.3 1 unit 4/2 way DCV, lever actuated with detent.
3.4 1 unit adjustable one way flow control valve
3.5 1 unit adjustable flow control valve
3.6 1 unit double acting cylinder
3.7 Hydraulic hose.

4.0 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

4.1 Make sure the student follow the laboratory or workshop safety regulators.
4.2 An experiment must be conducted by lecturers or experience lab assistance
4.3 All hydraulic hose must be fit properly.
5.0 PROCEDURES
5.1 Prepare the relevant hydraulic components on the workbench.
5.2 Assemble the circuit base in Figure 1.
5.3 Turn on the hydraulic pump.
5.4 Set the pressure at pressure relief valve 20 bar.
5.5 Pull/push the lever for the valve.
5.6 Adjust the adjustable on the flow control valve slowly and observe the
movement of the double acting cylinder.
5.7 Repeat the step above for metering-out and metering-off the circuit.
5.8 Observe the cylinder speed by adjusting the adjustable one-way flow control
valve and adjustable flow control valve

6.0 RESULT/DATA
6.1 What happens to the cylinder by adjusting the adjustable valve?

7.0 DISCUSSION
7.1 Explain the safety measure while conducting this experiment
7.2 Explain step by step how to assemble the circuit above.
7.3 What happens to the cylinder if the adjustable valve is fully closed for
metering in/out and fully open for metering-off the circuit?
8.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION
Deduce a conclusion from the result shown and from your observation.
