Before class, make one copy of the bingo card for every 12 students for each game you want to
play and cut as indicated. You will also need one copy of the bingo master card.
Procedure
Begin the activity by writing some basic add and subtract sums on the board using the numbers
0 to 50 (totalling no more than 50). Ask various students to read the sums to practice the
language and then elicit the answer for each sum.
Explain that the students are going to play bingo to practice numbers 0 to 50. However, instead
of just hearing numbers, students have to work out the numbers from simple sums.

Give the students a sum that totals one of the numbers on the bingo card, e.g. eighteen minus
four. Invite a student to come and cross out the answer on the board.
Repeat the process with the other numbers on the bingo card, inviting a different student to
cross out the answer each time. The student that crosses out the last number shouts Bingo!
You may wish to read the sums out yourself or you can ask a student to read them out. You or a
student then reads out a sum at random from the bingo master card and puts a tick in the
appropriate column to show the sum has been read.
All the students then do the sum. If a student has the answer on their bingo card, they cross the
number out. When a student has crossed out all nine numbers, they shout Bingo!
The student then reads out the numbers they crossed off. If they match with the numbers that
were ticked on the bingo master card, the student wins the game.
Repeat the game a few times, making sure students receive a different bingo card each time.
This game can also be played in groups of three or four to give students more practice with the
numbers. If you wish to do this, make more copies of the bingo master card.
