WORSHIP CALENDAR
5th of Easter
A s many of you will know, this will be my last message
as Priest-in-charge for Skelton, Shipton, Newton &
Linton, as I retire this month.
Skelton 9:30am Holy Communion It has been a joyful experience to get to know three
Shipton 10:00am Family Worship very different churches & four very different villages - all
Newton 10:00am †Facebook Communion† vibrant communities in their different ways, all with a
good community spirit. It has been a privilege to conduct
Sunday 9th May 6th of Easter many weddings & baptisms in times of celebration, but
Skelton 9:30am Morning Prayer also to serve people in their hour of need for funerals & in
Shipton 10:00am Family Communion illness. A true blessing, being able to meet and minister to
Newton 10:00am †Facebook Morning Prayer† so many over such a long period of time. I suspect I will be
continuing with some part-time ministry not too far away.
Thursday 13th May Feast of the Ascension I leave with many good memories, but hope to keep
Shipton 7:00pm †Facebook Communion† friendships going.
My retirement has very recently been marred by the
Sunday 16th May 7th of Easter sadness of losing my wife, Mandy, who supported me &
Shipton 10:00am Benefice service for was so active in both church & community. This sudden
Rev. Malcolm’s retirement unexpected loss has been softened by the love, care &
support so many have given me during these recent days.
As funeral attendees are limited due to Covid, we will hold

I’m also sad to leave our three great schools, and nursing

(our lay reader) have all been superb, as was Rev. Anna

One final piece of advice: never take a narrow view

 GENERAL NOTICES
Mandy Wainwright: Died on April 5th. As the priest’s wife,
Mandy was very active across the benefice & by
Malcolm’s side at all times. Founded one book group, was
a keen member of another, and enjoyed running ‘Coffee,
Chat and Books’. Supported many church & cultural
events across the villages and felt really rooted here.
Mourned by many, she gave so much and loved this area.
Funeral will take place at 11am, Thursday May 13th in
Shipton church, followed by burial in Newton churchyard.
Once restrictions have eased come September, there will
be a memorial service in St. Giles’ Church, Skelton.
Parish Administrator Vacancy: Important role assisting
in paperwork for Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals. If

St. Giles Opening: The church is now open for services. Please
see the Worship Calendar for details. The church is also open
between 14:00 and 16:00 on Wednesday afternoons for personal
prayer and reflection.
St Giles’ APCM The Annual Parochial Church Meeting will be
held in St Giles’ church on Wednesday 19th May starting at 19:00.
The Electoral roll is being updated. If you wish to be included on

Skelton Village Hall. Booking Secretary vacancy, paid by
honorarium. Occasional work which can be done from home via
phone, email and text. Consists of managing the Hall's bookings
diary, answering queries and confirming reservations. Occasional
visits to the hall (to show hirers around) will be necessary. The
amount of the honorarium is for discussion. For further no

Coffee, Chat and Books: Some years ago Mandy, our parish
priest’s wife, who died just recently, restarted the above regular
session in The Village Hall. It proved to be popular with village and
church, and all were welcome. Many books were brought, and sold
for a few pence, many coffees were drunk, a real meeting point in
the village once a month. It celebrated Christmas and Easter, in a
special way and other dates, such as Yorkshire week. Please
could someone could step forward and carry this on when COVID
allows - it would be a great shame to allow it to lapse, after it got
so well established. Contact the churchwardens if you are
interested - there is already a stock of about 200 books in the Hall
cupboard.

Skelton Social Running Group A casual running group meets on
Tuesday nights, 6.30pm at the green on St. Catherines Close. We
usually run 5km (3 miles) in a small group. Everyone welcome & if
enough people we can split into different groups for different
distances & speeds. Contact us via the Skelton Community Share
Facebook group.
Mobile Library in Skelton. The Mobile Library visits Skelton every
two weeks. Borrow books, update your library card or York Card,
return books from any other York library, & request books to be
brought to Skelton. The library stops in Fairfields Drive from
2.40pm to 3.10pm and Brecksfield from 3.15pm to 3.50pm.

Skelton Primary School We are pleased to announce that our

Shipton Parish Council Parish Council meetings will continue
on Zoom for the foreseeable. Members of the public welcome.
