State the starting operation procedure of main engine and propulsion plant

 ME indicator valve no 1 to 6 should be OPEN

 ME turning gear should be ENGAGED
 ME turning gear motor switch position should be set to ON
 ME turning gear motor switch position should be set to OFF
 ME turning gear should be DISENGAGED
 ME indicator valve no 1 to 6 should be CLOSE
 Starting air valve before ME should be OPEN

2. State the condition of main engine support system before start

 Start pre-lubrication of the engine well before starting the marine engine. For the
main engine it should be started before 1 hour and for auxiliary 4-stroke engines
at least 15 minutes in advance.
 After starting the lubrication pump, check lube oil levels and all other running
pump parameters such as cooling water pressure, fuel oil temp and pressure,
control and starting air pressure to ensure that all are in the accepted range.
 All the indicator cocks of the marine engine must be opened up for blow through
of combustion chamber prior starting in order to avoid hydraulic damage because
of water leakage.
 Rotate the crankshaft of the marine engine by means of turning gear so that all
the parts are thoroughly lubricated before starting.
 Ensure that the turning gear is properly disengaged by checking it locally even
when the remote signal is showing “disengaged” sign. Some auxiliary engines
are provided with tommy bar for rotation, ensure that it is removed from the
flywheel before the engine is started.
 The jacket cooling water temperature of the engine should be maintained at least
60 deg C for the main engine and 40 deg C for the auxiliary engine (it may vary
depending upon the KW rating of the engine).
 The incoming ship generator should be run at no load for at least 5 mins to allow
warming up of the system.

possible due to the auto load automation provided for sharing the equal load (if
same rated capacity).
 lves,
open the spring air first and then start the hydraulic oil to the exhaust valve. This
will avoid excessive opening of valves.
3. What kinds of condition do not allow the main engine to start?

 Pre-lubrication of engine had not be done well before starting the marine engine.
 After starting the lubrication pump, all important parameters such as checking lube oil
levels and all other running pump had not be ensure in accepted range.
 Close all the indicator cocks of the marine engine which it blows through of combustion
chamber prior starting that may causes hydraulic damage because of water leakage.

4. State the starting operation procedure of HFO Purifier

 HFO settling tank outlet valve to purifiers should be OPEN

 Heater inlet valve should be OPEN
 Heater outlet valve should be OPEN
 Steam inlet valve should be OPEN
 Steam outlet valve should be OPEN
 Purifier water supply shut-off valve should be OPEN
 Purifier air supply shut-off valve should be OPEN
 Sludge valve should be OPEN
 Inlet regulating valve should be set to 50% OPEN
 Purifier main switch should be set to ON
 Oil feed pump should be set to ON
 Heater button should be PRESSED for a few seconds
 Separation button should be PRESSED for a few seconds
 Separator should be set to ON

6. State the starting operation procedure of Fresh Water Generator.

 Ejector pump suction valve should be OPEN.

 Ejector pump discharge valve should be OPEN.
 FWG overboard valve should be open.
 FWG air valve should be CLOSED.
 FWG main switch should be switched ON.
 Ejector pump start button should be pressed for a few seconds.
 Wait until vacuum in FWG is 90 %.
 FWG heating water inlet valve should be OPEN.
 FWG heating water outlet valve should be OPEN.
 FWG heating water by-pass valve should be CLOSED to 50 %.
 FW to bilge manual valve to bilge should be OPEN.
 FWG outlet valve to FW tanks should be OPEN.
 Fresh water tank no 3 inlet valves should be OPEN.
 Mineralizer inlet valve should be OPEN.
 Mineralizer outlet valve should be OPEN.
 Fresh water pump start button should be PRESSED for a few seconds.
 Wait until water salinity will be less than 1 ppm.
 FW to bilge manual valve to bilge should be CLOSED.

7. What kind of condition the fresh water generator cannot produce

 Low Rate of Distillate Generation
- The heating tubes or the condenser piping are fouled from the inside, and they need
to be cleaned.

 Malfunctioning of Water Ejector

- The nozzle of the ejector has closed partially or fully and needs to be cleaned
- The sure at the outlet of the ejector is negative; the overboard discharge valve
should be closed up to a certain degree

 Low Feed Water Rate

- The feed water orifice may be clogged, and its surface needs to be cleaned.
- There is insufficient internal pressure in the condenser piping

 The pump does not operate at the required head or capacity

- The pump is drawing in air through the suction system and this needs to be checked
and tightened.
- The motor has been run in the reversed direction
-
8. State the starting operation procedure of C02 Fire Extinguish System

 Open the Engine Room Release Cabinet (A1) marked engine room on fire. The C02
alarm will
 now sound in the protected space.

 Be sure that all personnel area evacuated from the protected space.

 Before operating the system, close all openings to the protected space, stop engines,
close quick-closing valves for fuel, stop fuel pumps and purifiers, shut down the
ventilation.

 Pull down both ball valve handles (B).

 Open the screw down valve (C) on one pilot cylinder.

 The system is now operated.

 The Main Valve (E1) will be open immediately, a time delay until will delay the operation
of the
 C02 cylinder top valves (D). After a pre-set time (60-90 sec). The C02 gas will be
discharged into
 the engine room.

 In case of failure in the operation of the system from the release cabinet, the system can
be manually operated according to the following procedure,

 Open the main valve (E1) for the engine room on fire.

 Be sure that all personnel are evacuated from the protected space.

 Before operating the system, close all openings to.

9. What kinds of condition CO2 Fire Extinguishing System is used?

 The well known fixed firefighting systems mounted on most ships are the CO2flooding
system or the central bank CO2 system. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is released into a
protected space in bulk quantities such as the engine room and cargo hold
