Abudawood Highlights
Recently, an avid sports fan Mr. Adeel Mansoor (MT on SD rotation)
undertook an initiative and encouraged people from all the departments to
form a futsal team at ADP. Futsal is a variant of association football played on
a smaller field played between two teams of five players each, one of whom
is the goal keeper with unlimited substitutions permitted. The surface, ball
and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity, and technique as
well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

Prospects of a sporting activity at the end of a hectic week were met with
enthusiasm and within a span of three weeks teams were formed with regular
football sessions taking place every Friday after work.

The action really warmed up when an Annual Corporate Futsal tournament

was announced in which 12 other companies were participating. After getting
the appreciation from our GM, Nael Ahmed, ADP’s team entered this five-a-
side corporate futsal tournament. This initiative has fostered a positive culture
of sports in ADP. After football, people now want to start badminton and
basketball teams in the future. Team sports such as these are good for
learning cross functional cooperation, accountability, dedication, and
leadership, among many other traits. All in all it is a win-win for ADP!

Sales Van Simulation
Sales school for spot-sell SRs was conducted for the first time in Pakistan, facilitated by Saad Baig
and Fatima Ahmed (Simulation). Van simulation, titled as TAW Van Journey is a board game that is
based on the route of an SR that targets various critical learnings based on sales fundamentals. The
journey starts with inventory of goods and time and has a number of stores along the way. The
participants plan the route and sales as per the demand given for the stores. They face several
hurdles that are based on real-life scenarios. This simulation helped the SRs in implementing and
learning the effective use of sales school concepts in light of everyday scenarios.

“I have learned a lot from this session. I was not familiar with sales fundamentals and KSA
model before due to lack of awareness. I will apply all the sales techniques that I have learnt
and will try to gain benefit out of it using better presentation and communication skills.
Moreover, I have learnt that a salesman should be a good listener as well in order to target the
areas of concerns for the customers.”
Wajid Abbasi- Sales Representative

Project Management
Project Management session was held in Lahore, facilitated by Muhammad Saad Yusufi, Manager
Finance and Accounting. The main objective of this module was to help participants gain various
techniques for swiftly managing projects. The key features of the workshop were project
management plan, work breakdown structure, project charter and tools and techniques of Project
Management .The session was followed by interactive and exciting activities which engaged the
participants throughout.

This 2 days training was not only practical but also quite helpful in our day to day
operations and planning. Practical tools like Gantt Charts help me not only manage my
projects and resources more effectively but also designating resources and plotting time
against it. The out of the box group assignments have given a true experience of the
subject which enables us to perform more effectively. Ali Haider- Section Manager, HFS

Coaching In The Workplace
The session on “Coaching in the Work place” was held in Islamabad. Bahaa Hussein, Head of CLD
facilitated the session and was attended by 18 participants. The main theme of this module was to
equip participants with the knowledge and skills they need to become effective as a coach resulting
in the overall performance enhancement of the organization by engaging participants through
interactive and exciting activities. The effectiveness of the session was gauged by having each
participant coach one of his subordinates and send a video to CLD.

Coaching culture at work place is sine qua non for any organization to flourish and
prosper. The two day session has endowed me to think differently in order to get the
desirable results. This training also accentuates on, to become a leader with in his / her
own domain, one has to master at excising the minds of others and that can only be
done once one knows the team, their attitudes and their developmental needs.
Chaudry Bilal Hasan- Unit Manager, Institutions

CS&L School 1
The sessions on “CS&L School 1” were held in Karachi and Islamabad, attended by 28 participants.
The main purpose of this module was to help participants understand the basic SOPs of CS&L
operations and the tools relevant to business process. The sessions were facilitated by Babar
Shabbir, Branch Manager and Talha Ahmed, Regional Manager to enhance the skills and
knowledge of supply chain’s core operations of the new joiners in Customers Services and Logistics
Department.

“Learning and development culture drives great results because when you know
better you do better. CS&L School was a great forum for learning presented with
excellent insight into most useful information and tools relevant to business
process. The facilitator was well prepared, with good expertise and diverse
knowledge. Group discussions, stories and experiences shared were invaluable and
made a big difference in fulfilling the purpose. Overall, that’s a fantastic and
worthwhile event.”

Getting to know Asim Azeem

Sales Representative - Spot Sell,
Sheikhupura, IYA 217

Q- How do you feel?

It feels like hard work finally paid off. I have been trying since 3 years to make it to Top
SR. I was very scared when I was offered Spot Sales because I knew I would have to
build PR in the market from scratch but it’s just the first month and it’s Alahmdulillah a
great journey!
Q- How would you describe yourself?
I am hard working and intelligent. I love playing cricket and football.
Q- What is your most funny habit?
My parents passed away very early in life. I feel, I matured sooner because I had
responsibilities on me. I don’t have any funny habit as such.
Q- What is the best thing someone has said to you?
My boss Akhtar Ali Khan advised me that to build PR in the market you need to display
good manners and treat everyone with respect, which will make the customer like you
and this will help you succeed as a sales man. I think this advise has worked very well
for me and it has helped me garner a lot of respect in the market.
Q- What motivates you?
The eagerness to earn respect and have my boss say you did a good job.
Q-If you could meet anyone, who would you like to meet and why?
I would love to meet Boom Boom Afridi. If I get to meet him, I would tell him I am a
big fan of his sixes. Then I will take his autograph and a click a selfie with him.
Q- What are your aspirations in this position?
I want to see Sheikupura at the top. I want to work very hard and see myself as a Unit
Manager some day.

Automation of Execution Loss Tracking (ELT)

After close coordination and collaboration with IT experts and hard work
of 2 months CSL has finally automated the Execution Loss Tracking. The
automated version of ELT provides Adudawood with more features and
angles to explore its level of service and will help improve operations
further.

The basic purpose of maintaining Execution Loss Tracking is:

• To monitor Bills and Value execution of Supplier Officers
• Root cause the reasons for execution loss
• Take corrective measures to avoid future losses

This has been a big step in CS&L in moving towards data automation. This
version only takes data from SAP therefore avoiding manual intervention
(as done previously). After successful completion of the pilot run, this will
be launched Pan-Pakistan by Q3 FY 16-17.

Vantage Point

Q- What are the most important behaviors you demonstrate as a leader?

Well, it depends on circumstances but generally I tend to energize and motivate my

team to go for higher performance. I try to collaborate with them so that we achieve
a shared objective. I also try to inculcate new skills and often try to develop some
new capabilities within my team that help them achieve greater satisfaction. Success
of my team members thrills me.

Q- How can every manager be a leader in his/her role?

There are a few very important aspects that should be taken care of. First of all, I
believe that the manager needs to be very clear headed when it comes to setting
goals and defining objectives. He needs to thoroughly understand the capabilities of
his team before delegating a task to them, follow up regularly, invest time in his
team, recognize them for whatever their little achievements are. That’s how I think a
manager can become a good leader.

Q- How would you describe your journey of rising to a leadership position?

Well this is a life long journey, it is going to go far Inshallah… I had my ups and downs.
Almost 4 years in the company, three different roles at three different locations,
dealing with all kind of people. I believe it has to do more with my courage to take up
challenges and a never-give-up attitude. I also invested heavily in developing and
sizing up people. I worked honestly and diligently and put in my heart and soul and
above all, almighty Allah is very kind to me.

Q- What would your six word memoir be?

Dream it. Believe it. Build it. Muhammad Asif
