TURNOVER: All damaged cables are replaced and routed properly and Part
Numbers verified.

1. Continue cable installation from step 5. D. Ref. AMM 27-10-605.

2. Safety one turn barrel using pin method and one turn barrel using safety wire Ref.
MM (Alternate method). {Brass safety wire will be used in place of stainless steel.}

3. Adjust aileron using MM.

4. “Do Not Operate” tags must be attached to control wheel during maintenance action,
and removed after completion. (3 minutes added if not performed.)

======================================

Current temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Aircraft has been in a climate controlled hangar for 12 hours.

Aircraft should be ready for test flight when you are finished.

After successful rigging all flight tests pass.

All steps should be followed; missing steps will have time penalties.

Inspection required at steps noted in AMM – Cable Adjustment steps 11., 12. and 13. /
Aileron Adjustment steps 8., 9. and 10.

Perform tool inventory upon completion, shadow board style.

Clips – Turnbuckle Locking – Removal/Installation

1. General

1) This procedure contains these tasks:

1) Remove the turnbuckle locking clips.

2) Install the turnbuckle locking clips.

3) Install the lockwire (alternate method to locking clips).

TASK 20-10-10-004-001

2. Turnbuckle Locking Clips Removal

(Figure 401)

A. Procedure

1) Remove the locking clips:

a) Twist the locking clip and force the locking hook out of the hole in the
center of the turnbuckle barrel.

b) Move the locking clip out from the turnbuckle slot.

3. Turnbuckle Locking Clips Installation

(Figure 401)

A. Procedure

1) Install the locking clips:

CAUTION: DO NOT USE THE TURNBUCKLE LOCKING CLIPS

AGAIN. IF THEY ARE USED AGAIN, THE RISK OF FAILURE
INCREASES.

a) Tighten the turnbuckle until not more than three threads are out of the
barrel and the cable tension is correct.

b) Align the slot in the barrel and cable terminal.

c) Install the straight end of the locking clip into the aligned slot.

d) Put the locking clip hook over the hole in the corner of the turnbuckle. Put
the hook into the hole.

e) Push the shoulder to engage the hook in the turnbuckle.

f) Do the last four steps again to lock the second terminal.

NOTE: You can install the locking clips in the same side or the opposite
side of the turnbuckle holes.

g) To make sure the two locking clips are correctly installed, turn the
turnbuckle a small distance.

h) Visually examine the locking clips to make sure the hook is engaged in the
turnbuckle.

---------------------------------- END OF TASK -----------------------------------

4. Install the lockwire (alternate method to locking clips)

(Figure 402)

A. Consumable Materials
Reference Description Specification
C00308 Compound- Corrosion Preventive, MIL-C-11796
Petroleum Hot Application

B. Procedure

1) Install the lockwire:

a) Apply a thin coat of corrosion preventive compound, C00308 to barrel and

cable terminals.

b) Engage turnbuckle barrel equally with cable terminals and turn barrel until
not more than three threads are exposed outside and the proper cable
tension is reached.

c) Insert correct diameter stainless steel soft annealed wire into either cable
terminal. Use .024 for 1/16” cable, .031 for 3/32” or 1/8”, and .043 for
5/32” cable.

d) Twist wire.

NOTE: When twisting wire, do not use any tool which might nick the
wire.

e) Insert ends of wire through opposite holes in barrel. Pull wie through. If
tool is used, apply only on ends of wire.

f) Twist wire down to hole in terminal, insert end of one wire in hole, pull
through and twist ends together. Cut off length in excess of 5/8” of twisted
ends.

g) Push twisted ends back to lie flat against terminal.
