What is an Atom

The fundamental building block of all materials

What is Matter
Anything that has mass and takes up space. Matter is made up of much smaller particles know as
atoms

Subatomic Particles, Relative mass/charge

Protons and neutrons are in the center (nucleus) of the atom. ... Proton—
positive; electron—negative; neutron—no charge. The charge on the proton
and electron are exactly the same size but opposite. The same number of
protons and electrons exactly cancel one another in a neutral atom

Atomic Mass and Number

To calculate the numbers of subatomic particles in an atom, use its

atomic number and mass number:
number of protons = atomic number.
number of electrons = atomic number.
number of neutrons = mass number - atomic number.
State at Appearance Conductivity Malleability

Metals Solids except Shiny Good Malleable
