Public Speaking as

A public speaking consultation perspective understands public speaking as a dialogue between

the speaker and the audience. This exchange requires the speaker to understand that the value

depends on the focus of the speaker and the listener and that the setting affects how we should

organize and transmit our messages. The dialogic theory is based on three principles:Dialogue is

more natural than monologue, which means there is more interaction in the dialogue where as in

a monologue there is only one person talking and no interaction between the speaker and the

audience, Meanings are in people not words, this means that when there is an interaction

between two people some people cannot be put through words. Contexts and social situations

impact perceived meanings when there is a dialogue the conversation between the two people

can have an impact of their surroundings ("Dialogic Theory Of Public Speaking").

I think this could be considered important because it provided audience with the opportunity to

respond to questions, concerns and problems. It gives the audience a sense of belonging as the

interactive session motivates them to speak out what they believe and listen. The speaker also

feels validated because if he only had been speaking the people would’ve lost interest and

everything he would have been sharing would’ve gone to waste.

If I have to use dialogic theory of public speaking during my presentations, I would plan out my

presentations in such a way that it is more of question basically leaving open ended questions so

my classmates can interact with me and share their ideas and opinions so I’ll get to know their

background of m audience so I’ll be able to bridge the gap in between us. I’ll make an outline of

what I will say and at what point I can ask my audience questions or just listen if someone tries

to share something.
