Opening of Classes for S.Y. 2020 – 2021

1. How was the school opening?

The Nationwide Opening of Classes was filled with excitement with the slogan “Handang Isip,
Handa Bukas!”. It was an indeed success with the leadership of our DepEd Secretary, Mrs. Leonor M.
Briones. The virtual kickoff was held earlier this morning of October 5 th at exactly 7 o’clock in the Facebook
Live of DepEd. Also, the students were also encouraged to attend the said program. The Virtual Kickoff
was divided into three (3) parts; Part 1 – Pre-program (Preliminaries and Field Updates), Part 2 – Program
Proper (Live Flag Raising Ceremony, Declaration of the Opening of Classes, Field Updates, Presentation of
DepEd’s Preparations for S.Y. 2020 – 2021, Presentation of Health and Safety Protocols, Panel Discussion
on Oplan Balik Eskwela, Presentation of Learning Continuity Plan, Panel Discussion on LCP and DLI,
Secretary’s Forum and ended with the World Teachers’ Day Prayer and Message. For the last division, Part
III – Press Conference and Field Situationer, there were Press Conference and Field Updates in regard to
the School Opening Day National Program 2020 – 2021.

Afterwards, we proceeded on the conduction of our virtual orientation with my students. I gave
them points to remember in my class. There were some students who chose Messenger and Google Meet
as tools in communicating with their teachers. I also gave them a unique link to my Google Meet for those
who have internet connectivity and gadgets at home. For the first day of school, for me, it was a smooth
sailing of adapting the New Normal in Education.

2. What went well?

Based on my observation earlier, the smooth flow of teaching-learning process was still evident
though it was done virtually because teachers were still able to facilitate/guide their classes by answering
students’ queries in regard to the deepening of their comprehension in answering the SLMs (Self-learning
Modules).

3. What are the challenges?

There were minimal challenges that I have seen and encountered earlier. Unstable internet
connection has been the culprit of delays and misunderstandings with my students ever since. In addition,
due to the pandemic, some of my students has been working for their family in order to survive every day.

4. How did you manage the challenges?

With the challenges I have mentioned earlier, I made sure that the instructions were clearly given
and also, as a teacher, I gave them different choices of tools in communicating with me. I provided my
number, a unique code for Google Meet, and I signed up for another Facebook account for my students
exclusively. As what Secretary Leonor Briones said, “No Filipino learner will be left behind.” A very
challenging school year for all of us, indeed, but we can fight together in order to end this unseen enemy
with the help of our Almighty God.
