The document discusses inspecting a crankshaft for an engine rebuilding course. It describes visually inspecting the crankshaft for cracks or other damage. It also explains how to measure the runout of the crankshaft, which is an irregular circular motion caused by bending, by mounting it on V-blocks and measuring the center journal to check for excessive runout.

Inspection of Crankshaft (1)
Visual Inspection:
e.g. Fatigue failure cracks
Measuring the Runout of the crankshaft:
Definition: Runout is the irregular, out circled motion of the
crankshaft, e.g. as a result of bending deformation. Inspection: The runout is measured at the center main journal of the crankshaft while it is mounted on two V-blocks or engine block with the two end bearings mounted.
