-Example of Analytical Exposition

SMOKING IS NOT GOOD FOR US

Before we are going to smoke, it is better to look at the fact. About 50 thousands people die
every year in Britain as direct result of smoking. This is seven times as many as die in road
accidents. Nearly a quarter of smokers die because of diseases caused by smoking.

Ninety percent of lung cancers are caused by smoking. If we smoke five cigarettes a day, we
are six times more likely to die of lung cancer than a non smoker. If we smoke twenty
cigarettes a day, the risk is nineteen greater. Ninety five percent of people who suffer of
bronchitis are people who are smoking. Smokers are two and half times more likely to die of
heart disease than non smokers.

Additionally, children of smoker are more likely to develop bronchitis and pneumonia. In one
hour in smoky room, non smoker breathes as much as substance causing cancer as if he had
smoked fifteen cigarettes.

Smoking is really good for tobacco companies because they do make much money from
smoking habit. Smoking however is not good for every body else.

Notes on the generic structure of this example of analytical exposition

As we know that both analytical exposition and hortatory exposition are classified as
argumentative essay. Both present argument to support the thesis state in the orientation. This
thesis places the writer’s position on the essay. From the generic structure, what make big
different is that analytical exposition ends with paragraph to strengthen the thesis while
hortatory makes a recommendation for readers.

Sebelum kita merokok, lebih baik melihat kenyataan. Sekitar 50 ribu orang meninggal setiap
tahun di Inggris akibat langsung merokok. Ini tujuh kali lipat dalam kecelakaan jalan. Hampir
seperempat dari perokok meninggal karena penyakit yang disebabkan oleh merokok.

Sembilan puluh persen kanker paru-paru disebabkan oleh merokok. Jika kita merokok lima
batang sehari, kita enam kali lebih mungkin meninggal karena kanker paru daripada orang
yang tidak merokok. Jika kita merokok dua puluh batang sehari, risikonya sembilan belas
lebih besar. Sembilan puluh lima persen orang yang menderita bronkitis adalah orang yang
merokok. Perokok dua setengah kali lebih mungkin meninggal karena penyakit jantung
daripada bukan perokok.
Selain itu, anak-anak perokok lebih mungkin terkena bronkitis dan pneumonia. Dalam satu
jam di ruangan berasap, non perokok bernafas sebanyak zat yang menyebabkan kanker
seolah-olah telah mengisap lima belas batang rokok.

Merokok sangat baik bagi perusahaan tembakau karena mereka menghasilkan banyak uang
dari kebiasaan merokok. Merokok bagaimanapun tidak baik untuk setiap tubuh orang lain.

Generic structure of analytical exposition

1. Thesis: This per-conclusive paragraph states the writer’s point of view about the topic
discussed. Writer has show himself in clear position of the discussed topic. Paragraph 1 is the
thesis of this analytical exposition text. It states the fact of the very fatal impact of the
smoking habit. Clearly the writer wants to say that smoking is not a good habit.

2. Arguments: Presenting arguments in analytical exposition text is as important as giving

conflict plot in narrative text. The series of argument will strengthen the thesis stated before.
In this example of analytical exposition text, paragraph 2 and 3 are the detail arguments
presented in a reporting fact to support that smoking is not good even for smokers
themselves. Furthermore, people who do not smoke but they are in smoky area have the bad
effect too from the smoking habit.

3. Reiteration: This end paragraph actually is restating the thesis. It is something like
conclusive paragraph from the previous arguments. The last paragraph of this example of
analytical exposition points again that smoking is not good for smokers and people around
smokers. However smoking is very good for Cigarette Companies

BULLYING AMONG CHILDREN

Recently, the number of report about bullying among children has risen. The type of the case
also get even various and worse. Some of them even end with sexual abuse and death. This
issue definitely is not something we would take lightly.

Bullying cause bad effects for both side of those who are bullied and also those who bully.
Children who are bullied usually show negative changes on their behaviour and also on thier
physical condition. Some of them might experience depression and anxiety which lead them
to experience more sadness and loneliness. They also might experience changes in their
pattern of sleeping and eating which caused them to have health problem. All of this effect
usually have major effect on their achievement at school, some of them even drop out of their
school.

Children who bully others will also experience some negative effect from their actions. These
effect will be brought until their adulthood. Some of the effects are: tendencies to consume
alcohol and drugs when they are adult,tendencies to have violent behavior toward people
around them, properties around them and even tendencies to be abusive toward their romantic
partners in the future. In short, children who bully other will have tendencies to be criminal in
the future.

As an adult or parents, I believe we do not want those effects happen to our children. As a
recomendation, I suggest we deal with this issue seriously whenever we saw any bullying
happen around us.

PENINDASAN DIANTARA ANAK – ANAK

Baru-baru ini, jumlah laporan tentang tindakan penindasan antar anak-anak telah meningkat.
Jenis kasus nya pun menjadi beragam dan semakin buruk. Beberapa diantaranya bahkan
berakhir pada kekerasan seksual dan kematian. Persoalan ini sudah tentu bukan merupakan
suatu hal yang kita ingin anggap ringan.

Penindasan menyebabkan efek yang buruk bagi kedua sisi mereka yang ditindas dan mereka
yang menindas. Anak-anak yang ditindas umumnya menunjukkan perubahan negatip pada
prilaku mereka dan juga pada kondisi fisik mereka. Beberapa diantara mereka mungkin
mengalami depresi dan kecemasan yang menuntun mereka untuk mengalami rasa sedih dan
kesepian yang berlebih. Mereka juga mungkin mengalami perubahan dalam pola tidur dan
makan yang menyebabkan mereka memiliki masalah kesehatan. Semua efek ini biasanya
memiliki dampak besar pada prestasi mereka di sekolah, beberapa dari mereka bahkan keluar
dari sekolah mereka.
Anak-anak yang menindas yang lain juga akan mengalami beberapa efek negatip dari
tindakan mereka. Efek-fek ini akan terbawa hingga mereka dewasa. Beberapa efek tersebut
diantaranya: kecenderungan untuk mengkonsumsi alkohol dan obat-obatan saat mereka
dewasa, kecenderungan untuk memiliki prilaku kasar terhadap orang-orang di sekitar mereka,
benda-benda di sekitar mereka dan  bahkan kecenderungan untuk bersikap kasar terhadap
pasangan mereka di masa depan. Singkatnya, anak-anak yang menindas orang lain akan
memiliki kecenderungan untuk menjadi kriminal di masa depan.

Sebagai orang dewasa atau orang tua, saya percaya kita tidak menginginkan dampak ini
terjadi pada anak-anak kita. Sebagai rekomendasi, saya sarankan kita berurusan dengan isu
ini secara serius kapanpun kita melihat adanya penindasan terjadi di sekitar kita.
