Activity: Replacing Starter on Stacker

Principal Steps Potential Safety Hazards Recommended Controls

Make sure machine is locked out and tagged out
Disconnect battery cables
Remove the faulty starter
Install the new starter and hook up battery
Test start
Someone starting machine when it is being worked
on
You could short it out and it could cause injury
You could strain your back, etc.
You could get your hand in a pinch point
Someone could get injured at startup
Make sure it is properly locked out and tagged out
Make sure battery cables are disconnected and make sure
to remove all jewelry so you don’t short any wires out.
Make sure you use the proper lifting procedures
Be aware of your pinch points and use the proper PPE
Make sure that you have eye contact with the operator so
he knows where you are
