Junction City
The Junction City Community Band has become entirely self-
supporting. By the close of the 2015 season, enough funds had been
raised to pay for the 2016 season. All funds raised this year will go
Community Band
towards funding the 2017 season.
USD 475 has provided rehearsal space, instruments and sheet Tom Miles, conductor
music and the CL Hoover Opera House has provided rehearsal and
storage space. This has been invaluable in keeping our costs to a Sunday June 5, 2016
minimum.

History of the
2016 Concert Schedule Junction City Community Band
All concerts are free
The first Junction City municipal band, which was formed
and open to the public in 1868, had 13 members, only three of whom had played in a

Cornet Band” and performed free weekly concerts during the
C.L. Hoover Opera House summer in Heritage Park. George Kilian was the

Dixieland Band in 1995, Mary Louise Stahl commented to the
audience that Junction City needed a community band. Local
Volunteer Band Board musicians in that audience showed an interest in performing
Ronald Atkinson, Jr. and the Junction City Community Band was organized to
Matt Barnes resume concerts in the park in 1996.

Sue Hornbaker The band concerts were moved from Heritage Park to the
Danny O’Brien C.L. Hoover Opera House in 2010, where the tradition of
Victor Wong providing free concerts to the public has been maintained.

Honey Grant With the absence of a university, college or community
college music department in our town, the Community Band
Photographer relies heavily on the local school employees for directors and
Steven Balderrama the school students for players. High school students and
Narrator adults from Abilene, Chapman, Fort Riley, Milford, Riley
Sandy Wong and White City come together to make up the band.
