Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to heartily recommend Ms. Emily Gorde for a French Teacher position, either at the
Middle School or the High School level, as I had the pleasure of being her mentor teacher from
January, 2021 until late April, 2021. Working with and observing Ms. Gorde gave me unique insight
into her development as a teacher, and I am confident that she is prepared and eager to take charge of
her own classroom.

Ms. Gorde was prepared for teaching every day with well thought out, developmentally appropriate
lesson plans, incorporating Michigan’s World Language Standards throughout every step. Ms. Gorde
was especially adept at scaffolding lessons, and differentiating instruction for multiple age levels of the
same class section. I was very impressed at how well she taught Middle School students and High
School students the same content, but in a completely different manner to best meet their formative
needs.

Her use of technology was especially effective. Ms. Gorde reached students by using videos and
slideshows, having children read authentic materials, and practicing the language by playing games (as
well as speaking aloud), all while managing students who were both in class and joining class via
Zoom. She expertly navigated Google Classroom to grade assignments, and successfully negotiated
Powerschool to take over the maintenance of the gradebook.

My students quickly accepted and related to Ms. Gorde’s teaching style, and she developed a
wonderful rapport with the students. She taught with sensitivity and care in order to include all
students, allowing even the quietest children to speak French. My classes adjusted and flourished under
Ms. Gorde’s teaching, and her relationships with the kids blossomed. She became a relaxed, fair,
thoughtful teacher with an understanding of classroom dynamics and individual personalities.

My students and I were lucky to have had the opportunity to work with Ms. Gorde, and I believe she is
completely prepared and qualified to begin teaching immediately. She stepped in as a student and took
over my classes, and I watched her develop into a calm, professional, prepared, equipped educator. I
would highly recommend Ms. Emily Gorde for any French Teaching position, as I can unequivocally
