Activity 3 : OPPORTUNITY SEEKING IN THE DIGITAL ERA

Instructions: Answer the following questions as best as you can.

Challenge 1:
Social media has been very active in terms of spreading the word about practically
anything and everything. As a building entrepreneur, how can you take advantage of
this trend to churn out potential opportunities that you see? List down at least five
potential business opportunities that you see.

1. Online selling
2. Food delivery service
3. Home baked pastry
4. Facemask reselling
5. Live selling on Facebook

Challenge 2:
A contractor of fast-food giant failed to deliver the expected output of an inventory
systems upgrade. This resulted in more than 70 branches output closing due to inventory
problems. It compromised the sales for the month. What do you think were the potential
opportunities opened up to other players in the fast-food industry? Explain your answer.

I think the potential opportunities that opened up for the other players in the industry
is that customers from the closed branches will move to other players. Since the
inventory systems have a big impact on a company, once it fails it will be a huge
chance for the other players to boost up their business.

Challenge 3:
In order to prevent the corona virus from entering the Philippines, airports and other entry
points all over the country have been provided with digital thermo scanners to detect
feverish persons coming in from countries affected by the virus. However, there is no
guarantee that the country would be virus free for a long time despite the state-of-the-
art equipment that the authorities have been using. List down at least 5 opportunities by
this threatening situations and explain how it respond to the needs of the people to their
present situation.

1. Reselling or selling of face masks and shield, it is appropriate to sell these kinds of
stuff as long as the products that you sell is safe and approved by the higher-ups.
 These will help to prevent the virus since face masks are one of the essential tools in
lessening the virus.

2. Baking pastry products and selling them through online and delivery, as people
gets bored in their house and bakeries and malls are closed or people prefer to stay
in their house selling baked products is a trend where people get to eat a food that
they can always buy before the pandemic. You can try experimenting with a new
flavor and sell it. Since food is an essential need, it is not difficult to sell foods online.

3. Selling different items/products online, there are many users of Facebook and you
can start to create a page where you can sell different items like clothes, etc. It is safe
and easy for other people to engage with your activity. People love to lurk online
since the pandemic forced them to stay at home, and because of that, you can use
that opportunity to sell your products online for the bigger audience to see what you
are selling.

4. Gaming streams, as the pandemic started many young people started streaming
to earn money and also entertain many viewers by doing the things that they love.
Streams entertain people and it may gain a lot of audiences which will equal a lot of
money and donations.

5. Pet products and services, as the pandemic continues the adoption of pets has
increased by many folds and because of that many owners are looking for products
or tips that will help their pets to be happy.

Challenge 4:
An investor has given you P1,000,000.00 pesos to start a business in response to the
opportunities that you have figured out on your own. What would you do? What business
do you want to propose or establish?

The business that I wanted to do is to open a café with a library inside. I want to sell
some coffee and books. One of my hobbies is reading books and drinking coffee. If I
will be a café owner, I can recommend to my buyers some good books to read and
persuade them to buy. Teenagers like my age love to read and explore. I want to
share my hobbies with them. I think it will be successful since a lot of people love
coffee and books. I know a lot of sellers of cheap books that I can buy and resell for
a good price. I can also choose the books that will catch the attention of my buyers
for it to not get wasted. A lot of cafés also do not have a library inside so my café
might stand out. I am positive that this business will be successful and I can’t wait for
it to be established.
