Characters
Effie Trinket is the escort of the District Twelve tributes and is also an advisor to
the pair. She loves people to have table manners. She appears to be very posh as the capitol
people at the very first but then she realizes the Capitol’s mistakes.
Primrose Everdeen, Katniss’s sister who was reaped in the 74 th Hunger Games,
who had a talent for healing, just like her mother.
Summary
This is about the 74th Hunger Games. Each year a pair of tributes, a boy, and a girl, will be
luckily drawn by their escort to join the hunger games. The Hunger Games is created by
the Capitol. This game is to force tributes to kill themselves and the last one alive is the
victor. This game lets everyone knows that with a snap of the Capitol’s finger people
could die or suffer.
This year in District 12, Prim was reaped in the reaping. Katniss, her sister, was afraid she
could die and took her place herself. Peeta was reaped too. Their mentor was the
alcoholic, Haymitch, the person who won one of the Hunger Games by figuring out a
Gamemakers trick.
The Hunger Games started with an opening ceremony. Followed by training and
interviews. Effie their escort helped them with the interviews, Peeta and Katniss worked
hard on their talents, drawing, and shooting with a bow and arrows. And for Haymitch,
being a drunken alcoholic, found the pair tons of sponsors.
At the interview, Peeta confused to the public that he had a crush on Katniss since he
was five. Then the pair were called “star-crossed lovers”. So that is how they survived
the Hunger Games, pretending to be madly in love. They fought with each other, and till
the end, Katniss thought of a clever plan when she called what Peeta said in his mind,”
Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to show that the Capitol they don’t own me.
That I’m more than just a piece in their Games.” She thought of a clever idea to
embarrass the Capitol, by eating the poisonous berries at the same time, so there were
no survivors.
As she thought, the Gamemakers announce that there could be two survivors before
they could even swallow the berries and then announcing that Katniss and Peeta won.
They made it back home safely and they now live in the Victors Village with loads of
money.
But there was only a problem they knew they both faked in the Arena to be madly in
love and started up-rises in the Districts. They knew the Capitol hated them. The only
problem was they did not like each other anymore but had to pretend to show the
people that they still loved each other, and it was worth it, so the Capitol will not be
mad. But how long would it last before the people notice it and start another uprising?
My Favorite Character
My favorite character is Katniss Everdeen.
She is brave, ambitious, and cunning. She is brave since she protected her sister from
entering the Hunger Games, and by fighting to be alive. Also, she is cunning of her
idea to embarrass the Gamemakers. By eating the poisonous berries in the Arena
with Peeta so there would be no survivors. She is also ambitious to fight against the
Capitol because it is what she believes. The capitol is so wrong and is harming people
with the Hunger Games. She acts as a rebel to fight the Capitol and risk her life to
make justice and hope to change everyone’s life.
I was struck by how she was required to look pretty and act charming so she could
gain sympathy, and how she was forced into becoming a symbol while simply trying
to survive. Despite all the pressure and difficulties she faced, she never once willingly
gave up her independence. That was not always a good thing, as she often shut
herself down emotionally and dismissed the people trying to help her. But it also
made her more than just an empowered and trusting character. It made her human,
real and alive, which is not something female characters get to be in fiction.
I learnt from her that if you believe, then go for it. Because nobody is here to stop
you. And think about consequences before you act. Also, to be prepared because
anything can happen to you any moment whether it is good or not.
