1. Read & interpret work instructions as per plan
2. Identify the tools, equipment, testing devices, & materials needed for
installation
3. Identify the PPE & OHS policies & procedures required for the installation
job
4. Install pole hardware, accessories and cable
5. Conduct final inspection of the installed pole hardware, accessories and
cable
6. Prepare an installation & testing report

READ & INTERPRET WORK INSTRUCTIONS AS PER PLAN
Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
1. Communication skills to interpret work instructions are defined and
demonstrated according to the established procedures
2. Work signs, symbols and conventions are defined and explained according to
the set instructions
3. Work instructions are demonstrated as per plan
A person’s suitability for a job, including whether they have the ability to
fulfil their job requirements, relies on their ability to read, interpret and carry out
their work instructions.. Learning to accurately read and interpret work
instructions is essential to your career in the industry.
Work instructions include methods or work, processes and procedures,
equipment, policies and procedures, and manuals.
ELEMENTS OF READING AND INTERPRETING WORK INSTRUCTIONS
1. Identify document type and purpose
1.1 Key information such as title, version, scale, legend and keys are
identified.
1.2 Type and purpose of document was accurately determined.
1.3 Any relevant explanatory or additional information needed to interpret
the document is located.
1.4 Clarification is sought from appropriate personnel to confirm the
intention of the information.
2. Read and interpret the document
2.1 Work documents are accurately read and interpreted to determine the
work to be completed.
2.2 Work place procedures and tasks to be performed are identified.
2.3 The material, equipment and tools to be used are accurately identified
and quantities determined.
2.4 Occupational Health and Safety requirements relevant to the work
process are recognized.
2.5 Information such as symbols, abbreviations, acronyms and technical
terms are identified and interpreted.
2.6 Design and style features shown in drawings are identified by industry
recognized terms.
