Working to the provided design constraints you are to design, simulate and optimise your own bespoke
design for a coat hook, ensuring to adhere to the following requirements:
• Your design must be within the spatial restrictions shown in Figure 1.
• Your design must accept a typical clothes hanger, with a maximum wire thickness of 4mm and
nominal hook radius of 20mm.
• Your design must be mounted by a single #6 self-tapping countersunk screw.
• Your design must support a load of 1kg, hung from the hook.
• Assuming a simulation material of Nylon 101, your final design must be within a Factor of Safety of
2 in all areas.
• Your design should be optimised for 3D printing on an Ultimaker 2 Extended+ 3D printer.

Simulation:
• Appropriate use of Solidworks Simulation capabilities to evaluate the static
loaded performance of each design iteration.
• Appropriate fixtures applied for the specified loading condition.
• Appropriate loading regime for the specified loading condition.
• Appropriate mesh specification for the design.
• Effective post processing of the simulation results.
Print Ready
Submission of a print ready STL file of the final part, appropriate tessellation and file
STL File
size for the detail of the final design.
[5 points]
Production Submission of a production ready Cura Project File (3MF), appropriate for printing on
Ready Cura an Ultimaker 2 Extended + 3D printer, using PLA material and a print nozzle size of
Project File 0.4mm. Rational part orientation/placement and appropriate print parameters pre-
