Introduction
(Swiggy)
Swiggy is food ordering and delivering company based in Bangalore. It provides a
single window for ordering from a wide range of restaurants and have their own
exclusive fleet of delivery personnel pick up orders from restaurants and deliver it
to customers. It is a complete food ordering and delivery solution that connects
neighborhood restaurants with urban foodies.
Founded in 2014, swiggy started small, delivering food to a few neighborhoods in
Bengaluru, India. As the company grew, the team wanted a mapping technology
that could help expand the service throughout India.
Swiggy needed a scalable mapping platform that covered a wide geographic area
and offered tools to help the company to build an efficient mobile app and
website for customers and delivery staff .Swiggy is a leading food ordering and
delivery startup in India. The company started operations in 2014 and is
headquartered in Bengaluru. Swiggy works by acting as a bridge between
customers and restaurants. It utilizes an innovative technology platform that
allows customers to order food from nearby restaurants and get it delivered at
their doorstep. With Swiggy,
customers do not have to keep the contact numbers of various restaurants and
eateries in their locality. Swiggy works as a single point of contact for ordering
food from all restaurants that may be there at a particular location. Swiggy has it
own team of delivery professionals who pickup orders from restaurants and
deliver it at the customer's doorstep.

History -
The idea for Swiggy came in 2014, when the founders realized that there was A
huge gap in the food ordering and delivery space. Restaurants often faced
Manpower problems and their delivery personnel were also not trained to Deliver
food in time. Swiggy started as a small setup in August 2014, with a Team of six
delivery personnel and covering 25 restaurants. However, the idea Soon became
a huge hit among customers and restaurants alike. Swiggy now Has operations in
8 cities and more than 10,000 restaurants on its platform.

Founders -
Swiggy was founded by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy, and Rahul Jaimini.
Sriharsha Majety is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and
he currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Swiggy. Co-founder
Nandan Reddy is an alumnus of Birla Institute of Technology and Science and he
heads operations at Swiggy. He had earlier worked at Galla, Zurna, IDinsight, and
Intellecap. Co-founder Rahul Jaimini is an alumnus of Indian Institute of
Technology, Kharagpur and he is the Chief Technical Officer at Swiggy. Prior to
Swiggy, he had worked at Myntra and NetApp.

Journey of Swiggy -
Swiggy began its Journey from Bengaluru with six delivery executives and 25
restaurants on its platform. In the time of 3 years, it has scaled up with over 6,000
delivery executives across India in more than 8 cities like Delhi-NCR , Mumbai,
Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and Pune.
Introduction
(Zomato)
Zomato is an Indian restaurant aggregator and food delivery start-
up founded by Pankaj Chaddah and Deepinder Goyal in 2008. Zomato
provides information, menus and user-reviews of restaurants as well as
food delivery options from partner restaurants in select cities. Zomato also
began grocery delivery amid the COVID-19 outbreak. As of 2019, the
service is available in 24 countries and in more than 10,000 cities.

Zomato was founded as Foodiebay in 2008, and was renamed Zomato on


18 January 2010 as Zomato Media Pvt. Ltd.In 2011, Zomato expanded
across India to Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Kolkata.
In 2012, the company expanded operations internationally in several
countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Qatar, the United
Kingdom, the Philippines, and South Africa. In 2013, Zomato was launched
in New Zealand, Turkey, Brazil and Indonesia, with its website and apps
available in Turkish, Portuguese, Indonesian and English languages. In April
2014, Zomato launched its services in Portugal, which was followed by
launches in Canada, Lebanon and Ireland in 2015.
In 2019, Zomato acquired Seattle-based food portal Urbanspoon, which led to the
firm’s entry into the United States and Australia. This U.S.-expansion brought
Zomato into direct competition with similar models such as Yelp and Foursquare

History-
Zomato was founded as Foodie bay in 2008, and was renamed Zomato on 18

Founders-
The Ant Financial-backed firm now has four cofounders— Goyal, Gunjan Patidar,
Guarav Gupta and now Mohit Gupta. Pankaj Chaddah, who started Zomato with
Goyal and Patidar had quit the company after a 10-year stint in March 2018 and
has now started a mental fitness startup Mindhouse.

Journey of Zomato-
Zomato began its Journey from Delhi and now is actively serving over 24+
countries in more than 10,000+ cities.
Introduction
(Uber Eats)
Uber Eats is food delivery platform that makes getting great food from your
favorite local restaurants as easy as requesting a ride.
The Uber Eats app connects you with a broad range of local restaurants
and food, so you can order from the full menus of your local favorites
whenever you want. Uber Eats app on mobile device and delivery bag A
food delivery service from Uber, Uber Eats lets you order instantly,
schedule your meal, or buy for a group from local restaurants and chains.
Uber Eats is a food delivery service that’s an offshoot of the Uber ride-
hailing service.You can place orders with local restaurants from the Uber
Eats website or mobile app, and food is delivered directly to your door,
usually for a small delivery fee. You can set up group orders or schedule
orders for a later time as well. Uber Eats is a food delivery service, similar
to competitors like Swiggy,food panda, Zomato. An extension of Uber’s
original ride-hailing service, the on-demand food service acts as the
middleman between you and restaurants, bringing take-out from local and
chain establishments and dropping it right at your door. To use Uber Eats,
you can place an order using the Uber Eats website, the Uber Eats app for
iOS, or Uber Eats for Android. No matter which method you use, the
process for ordering on the app is relatively the same. Select the restaurant
and choose the items you want to order, then check out.

History-
Uber Eats is an American online food ordering and delivery platform
launched by Uber in 2014 and based in San Francisco, California On
January 21, 2020, Zomato said it would acquire all of Uber Eats’s stock in
India. As part of the deal, Uber would own 10% stake in Zomato and
Zomato would gain all the users of Uber Eats in India. At the time of the
deal, Zomato was valued at roughly $3.55 billion.

Founders-
Uber Eats’ parent company Uber was founded in 2009 by Garrett Camp
and Travis Kalanick

Uber Eats launched in India in 2017 with a promise to revolutionize the
sector but unfortunately they failed and Uber eats India was sold to Zomato
on 21 Jan 2020 for the stake of 9.9% in Zomato.
Market share

The online food delivery market in India is growing in tandem with evolving
lifestyle patterns and eating habits of Indians. Hectic work schedules and
rise in disposable incomes have popularized food delivery, especially in
urban areas.

The online food delivery market in India is expected to expand at


compound annual growth rates of ~30.55% (based on revenue) and
~10.19% (based on the number of users) during the 2020-2024 period, to
generate a revenue of INR ~1,334.99 Bn and develop a user base of
~300.57 Mn by 2024. Major players currently operating in the Indian online
food delivery market include platform-to-customer service providers like
Swiggy (Bundl Technologies Private Limited), FreshMenu (FoodVista India
Private Limited), Faasos (Rebel Foods Private Limited) and Zomato
(Zomato Media Private Limited). Apart from these, there exist certain
companies that operate with a restaurant-to-customer delivery model like
Box8, Domino's (Domino's Pizza, Inc.), and KFC (Yum! Brands, Inc.).
