Project QM353

Each group must collect data and perform two analyses: (NOTE: allowed to be done in teams
of up to five –eight students).
a) Collect data using internet sites (usually banks or companies, such as World Bank
site).
b) Do not collect data using questionnaire (it is allowed only internet data from well-
known sites).
c) It is recommended to work with performance of the bank or companies (such as
profit) that given by the company or bank on official places.
d) Conduct two analysis two populations (tests of hypothesis about means and
proportions).
e) Do your analysis using excel or SPSS.
f) Write and hand in a short report.

Report:
In the report, the group should include the following information:
1. A short introduction, containing a description of the situation you are going to study.
2. The hypothesis you are going to test (one population proportion and comparing two
averages or proportions).
3. What type of data you are collected? (Brief discussion about data).
4. Your analysis you are going to conduct (for the single proportion and for comparing
two samples including all graphs and tables).
5. Conclusion and most important results
6. References used in the report.
Criteria

The following criterial are used to evaluate the project.

1. It is clear from the introduction what type of statistical analysis is conducted.
2. The important data parameters are clearly provided.
3. The H0 & Ha OR the claim for the confidence interval are clearly and correctly stated.
4. The critical value (hypothesis) OR the margin of error (interval) is correctly
determined.
5. Testing for equal variances in case of comparing two samples.
6. The test statistic OR the confidence interval is correctly determined.
7. The p-value is correct OR the confidence interval is compared to a logical value.
8. The conclusion is correct and in line with the data.
9. The conclusion is linked back to reality, such that it is meaningful for a company or
bank.
10. The limitations of the project
11. References are well cited.
