PROJECTED STARTING GOALIE PLAYER SPOTLIGHT LONG ISLAND'S OWN
SEMYON VARLAMOV (#40) JOSH BAILEY (LW, #12) Three Long Island natives will play
The Alternate Captain returns from a two-game in tonight's game: the Isles' Kyle
16-9-3, 2.24 GAA, .922 SV% injury absence. Bailey had played in every
single game that Barry Trotz had coached since Palmieri (Smithtown), the Rangers'
joining the Isles prior to the 2018/19 season. Adam Fox (Jericho) and Anthony
Bitetto (Island Park).
First Time in a Long Time: This was the first scoreless Islander game to go to overtime since
February 1, 2019, when Tampa Bay beat the Isles at the Coliseum in a shootout.
Always in OT: There were six overtime games in the season series versus the Flyers; the
only other time that happened was in the 1988-89 season (Los Angeles vs. Winnipeg).
The White Whale: Ilya Sorokin is 12-2-0 in his last fourteen starts (1.67, .934). Among
goalies who have played at least 10 games in that span, only Juuse Soros (1.61) has a lower
goals against average in that span and only Soros (.949) and Alex Nedeljkovic (.937) have a
higher save percentage.
Home Sweet Home: The Isles have earned points in 20 of their first 22 home games (18-2-
2); it is their best home record through 22 games in the Post-Cup Era and the most since
the 1978/79 season.
In Trotz We Trust... Barry Trotz is second among active coaches, trailing only Joel Quenneville, in both
wins and games. Trotz' NHL record is 873-631-60-155 in 1,719 games.
Starts at the Top... Lou Lamoriello and Barry Trotz have 2,195 wins between the two of them. They start
each game with more than any other pair in NHL history.
First Things First... The Isles are 19-1-2 when scoring first and 9-12-2 when allowing the opening goal.
Living the Leddy Life... Nick Leddy's overtime goal ended a 159:27 Islander scoreless streak
Sorokin's Shining... Rookie goalie Ilya Sorokin is 8-0-0 at home. He is the first goalie in NHL history to
win his first eight career starts in one season (Harry Lumley for Detroit in 1944-45 and Jaroslav Halak for
Montreal in 2006-07 had each started 7-0-0). Only one other NHL rookie goalie in the last 39 years has
won eight straight at home in a single season- Semyon Varlamov did that in 2009-10 for Washington.
Back to Back Business... The Isles are 4-1-2 in the front-half and 4-2-1 in the back-half. The final back-
to-back of the season will be on May 3rd/4th, both of which will be played in Buffalo. Under Barry Trotz,
the Isles are 21-4-3 (.804) in back-ends. This is by far the best record of any NHL team in back-ends
during this stretch. Tampa Bay has the next best record: 19-7-3 (.707).
Delightful Defense... The Isles have allowed only 105 goals (including 1 shootout winner) in 44 games; it
matches the fewest goals that they have allowed through 44 games in their history.
Home Cooking... Tonight the Islanders begin a stretch of playing 3 straight games at Nassau Coliseum.
Lucky Number Three... The Isles are 20-3-3 when they score at least three goals (including shootout
winners) and are 8-10-1 when they do not. Under Barry Trotz, the Isles are 86-8-10 when scoring three or
more..

Noteworthy Quotes
--“This is a grind. Noah, he hasn’t been the Noah I want and expect,” Trotz said of his young player.
“Oliver Wahlstrom hasn’t done a whole lot for me. The mental grind, they’re not used to it. Some of the
young players got by on skill in the past — even when they’re not at their best they’ve still contributed.
You can’t do that this time of year. It’s just a fact of life with some of the young guys.”
--“Five years back, the Islanders had a really strong power play but they never won,” Trotz said. “Their
five-on-five game was so one-sided in the negative, the power play didn’t make that much of a
difference. We’ve based our philosophy on: let’s be a good five-on-five team and build our special
teams.”

-He split the 2016/17 season with the Islanders and the Sound Tigers, and ultimately appeared in 44 games for the Islanders,
recording 10 points. After that performance, ex-Islanders GM Garth Snow rewarded him with a four-year contract extension, which
raised the eyebrows of many fans and followers of the team. To add to that surprise, the Islanders protected Pelech in the 2017 NHL

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada... 28 Years Old
--Pageau was born in Ottawa and raised in Hull, Quebec. During junior hockey, he played with the Gatineau Olympiques and the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.
Pageau was selected 96th overall in the fourth round by his hometown Ottawa Senators in the 2011 NHL Draft. He started his professional hockey career
with the AHL’s Binghamton Senators in the 2012-2013 season. He recorded 29 points in 69 games before being called up to play with the Senators team in
April of 2013. Pageau stayed with Ottawa for the rest of that season and recorded 2 goals, 2 assists, in 9 regular season games.
-About a month after playing his first NHL game, he scored a hat trick, the first in his career, in the Eastern conference quarterfinals. He became the
second player in Senators history to score a hat trick in the playoffs
-Pageau immediately became a fan-favorite. As he was loved by his hometown, in June of 2013, he signed the official guestbook at the start of a city
council meeting and received a plaque from the mayor of Gatineau. The mayor called him, “a true ambassador for the city.” Pageau is now a part owner of
the town’s junior team, his former team, the Gatineau Olympiques.
-In June of 2015, Pageau signed a two-year contract with the Senators. From 2017-2020, he was an alternate captain for the Senators. In the 2017
playoffs, Pageau shined, most notably when he scored four goals in game two versus the New York Rangers. One of the goals was the game winner in
double overtime. In the summer of 2017, Pageau signed a three-year contract to remain with the Senators.
CAREER STATISTICS -On February 24th, 2020, Pageau was traded to the New York Islanders for a conditional 2020 first round pick, a 2020 second round pick, and a conditional
third round pick in 2021. Once being traded, Pageau quickly signed a six-year extension with the Islanders. In his Islanders debut, he scored a goal, and

the roster than points, as he strengthened the Islanders at the center position, killed penalties, and won faceoffs.

Pageau’s wings. He is a great mentor for those two players, Oliver Wahlstrom and Michael Dal Colle, and the three of them united to become a scoring
threat and a consistently performing third line.

ISLES INSIGHT: Pageau quickly became a fan favorite of the Islanders just as he had with the Senators, by showing his love to the fans on social media.
During the bubble, the Islanders played a team ping pong tournament called “Boys Of The Isles.” Pageau posted on social media his win, crowning himself
king. He showed off his joyful and energetic personality, and clearly sparked the Islanders locker room.
