“Driving to North Kuwait - Challenges & Defensive Measures”

Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVAs) severely affect people’s lives, families and the reputation,
standards and HSE performance of Companies. It has become a serious concern due to the
increasing numbers of all levels of MVAs (Minor, Moderate & Major) that are occurring in
KOC. Journey Management and adequate planning are vital for a safe and convenient travel
to/from workplaces that are located at North Kuwait (NK – Fields & Facilities). Therefore,
driving defensively, being aware of the weather & roads’ conditions, and understanding
the challenges that you may encounter throughout your journey with the required
defensive measures can drastically ensure your safety.

NK’s Driving Challenges


 Long driving durations at Early / Late Hrs.
 Vehicles Crossing from Desert Camps.
 Parked vehicles without hazard lights.
 Presence of large number of different Types of
Vehicles such as Long/Wide Trailers / Heavy, Oversized vehicles
Medium & Light Vehicles, and Military Convoys.
 Temporary Detours / Road Closures.
 Sudden movement of vehicles from U-turns.
 Damaged Roads and dangerous Potholes.
 Dusty / Foggy Weather and Low Visibility.
 Sand Accumulations on Roads.
 Animals (Camels, dogs, sheep, etc.) Crossings.
 Reckless Drivers, posing high-risks to others. Dangerous U-turns

Safe Driving Measures


 Have sufficient Sleep / Refresh before starting
your journey.
 Be careful while overtaking large trucks / trailers.
 Be cautious at Intersections / U-turns / Roads’
Closures / Temporary Detours. Sand Storm/ Poor Visibility
 Adjust your Mirrors to avoid Blind Spots.
 Do not Over-Speed and Slow-Down as required.
 Maintain Safe Distances from all sides.
 Reduce your speed based on visibility while
driving through Fog and Sandstorms.
 Try to avoid driving on sand pile accumulations.
 Ensure a Reliable Maintenance to your vehicle.
 Stay Alert/Focused to respond safely, as needed. Over-speeding in Emergency Lanes
