I decided to take electrical engineering since I was hooked in the lessons in physics on
my senior high school days. But then at first, my first choice was architecture and it was not
covered by the DOST scholarship which is my priority since it can help lessen the financial
burden on my parents. So, then I decided to enroll in my second choice, which is the
electrical engineering and thankfully because of the helpful and kind faculty, I was accepted.
What I expect in the subject is that it would be more informative about Dr. Jose Rizal
than the past subject I had in the past. I expect that it won’t only focus on introducing him
and his works but also the deeper meaning of their existence and the events surrounding his
life and the events after his death. I also expect that the subject would also discuss the
significance of his work to the Filipinos and the reasons why he is honored as the national
hero of the Philippines instead of the other great heroes we had in the past.
I expect that the subject professor would be already familiar with the lessons of the
subject. I also expect Ma’am Gina would be more considerate and approachable regarding the
difficulties that each students would face during this pandemic. I also expect that she won’t
also be stressed out because of the situation, since I know the difficulties the professors and
teachers are experiencing right now in order for them to provide education to the students. I
hope together with her we can overcome the situation that this pandemic have brought
towards us and successfully finish this school year without mishaps.
I want to learn a new branch of our history, rooting from the life and works of Dr.
Jose Rizal. I also want to learn the reasons he wrote his works and the meanings behind his
works in a more detailed way. I also want learn the events during his life that may had
affected his works. I also want to learn the basis of him becoming our national hero and the
reasons that differed him from the other heroes we have.
As far as my knowledge about him goes, we consider his works as the spark of the
revolution against the Spaniards. His works, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo made a
great depiction of what is the situation of the Philippines under the Spaniards’ rule. His works
made the blood of the Filipinos boiled, and thus came the huge revolutionary movement
throughout the country. Regarding his life, I know him as a genius and from a well-off
family. He studied not only in the Philippines but also in the western countries. I also know
him as a womanizer. Because of his works he was arrested and was killed under the hands of
fellow Filipinos that were soldiers under the Spaniards. Regarding the issue of whether he
should really be honored as our national hero or not, I think he should be. Even if I really
don’t know the basis that made him the national hero, experts won’t put the title on him
without reasons and deeper deliberations. But I think it was because of without his works
Filipinos won’t be one in starting a revolution. His works served as the spark the Filipinos
were waiting for, without them I think many Filipinos won’t have the courage to face the
unruly conquerors. Also, I think because of his works there wouldn’t be large revolutionary
movements where leaders were born and there would only be small skirmishes between a
bunch of the oppressed and the oppressors. I hope the subject would help me in
understanding more of this topic, so I can be enlightened whether my own idea is correct or
not.
