(1)
Have you ever stopped and think for a moment, where did the burger you ate
for dinner originated and who came up with the soap that you use everyday to clean
yourself? In this essay, I’d like to talk about globalization and the importance of
defining it. Globalization touches every part of our lives, from the products we buy to
the food we eat to the ways we communicate with one another. But one question still
remains? What is Globalization? According to the Oxford dictionary, it is defined by
the process by which businesses or other organizations develop international influence
or start operating on an international scale. It is now established that no matter where
you are, who you are, globalization affects you. In relation, it is important because it
enhance our knowledge, understanding and analysis of the role of globalization in the
modern world and its effect on our lives.

In order to prove my point thoroughly, I’ll cite the different metaphors that
are used to better understand concepts relating to globalization. First is, Solidity. It
refers to either natural or man made barriers that prevent or make things difficult the
movement of products or services. To cite, for natural solids we have landforms and
bodies of water and for the man-made, infrastructures such as the Great of Wall of
China. Next is Liquidity, it refers to the increasing ease of movement of people,
things, information, places in the contemporary world. The internet which is easily
accessible for almost anyone in the world helps the spread. These 2 metaphors are in
constant interaction.

To end this essay, I’d like to say that like everyone else in the world, I, myself
experience globalization everyday. Using facebook, submitting my requirements and
even the food that I eat. Whenever I eat chowking, I experience globalization
whenever I drink my energy drink, in the process before me consuming it I know it
has been somewhere, therefore I know I experience globalization. Globalization is
everywhere and it has made our life easier, helps us to understand what differentiates
us from other culture and how we are connected at the same time.
