Overview of the lesson:
Jawaher began the lesson with the National Anthem and gave the students 30 seconds to
prepare themselves for the learning today.
Next, Jawaher proceeded with the morning calendar activities where students identified the
appropriate the month, day of week, yesterday, tomorrow, weather outside and how they are
feeling. Students once again reviewed the virtual classroom rules displayed on screen. She then
stated, “Today we will explore how we describe objects and recognize the concept of matter”
and then proceeded to review the lesson steps that students will learn today: Warm up,
discover new words and meaning, questions and activities.
 Excellent job breaking down the lesson utilizing Gradual Release Model (GRM) to ensure
student understanding 
During the warmup, students were introduced to the science vocabulary words (matter, mass,
volume, property) and then watched a short video explaining these concepts. After the video,
students were asked to answer questions related to the video and responded appropriately.
Jawaher reviewed the science vocabulary with the students and provided the Arabic translation
to ensure student understanding of the concept. Students were then able to restate their
understanding of the science concept in English.
Next, she displayed a picture of several balloons on the screen and called upon students to
choose a colored balloon and answer the science question hidden inside it.
Question to consider: What strategies can be implemented to ensure that proper
grammar/sentence structure is used? How can the following sentences be reworded so that it’s
grammatically correct? Think about whether the sentences state the true meaning so that
students understand the question.

 Give me object have matter? =
 This object matter has? =
 Excellent job using padlet as a formative assessment learning platform 

 Red group: Students will choose a picture that has matter and explain it to the class
 Yellow group: Students will choose a picture that has matter and explain it to the class
 Green group: Students will choose a picture that has matter and write a sentence
describing the picture
As students completed the activity, Jawaher was able to monitor students’ progress using the
padlet link.
Question to consider: What strategies can be implemented to ensure the lesson cycle is full
covered? Think about the importance of the lesson closing.
