Topic: Satellites
We will be discussing
- the importance of satellites
- its uses in outer space
- how satellites are used on Earth in regards to technology
(TVs, Cell phones, etc.)
Program Objective
Our program objective
is to educate and bring
awareness to how
important satellites are
in our everyday lives.

NASA ● Satellites travel at 18,000 miles per hour. That means in a given
day, satellites can travel the entire circumference of the Earth
RELATED about 14 times.
● There are over 2,500 satellites in orbit around the Earth.
RESEARCH ● VO: In addition to being used for defense and intelligence, satellite
imagery has many innovative uses in the environmental, economic,
entertainment and humanitarian sectors.

NASA - Because the satellite orbits are not perfectly known, accuracy of the
RELATED measurements can be greatly improved by combining readings from the
field sites with data from GPS receivers at several standard locations in

RESEARCH North America.

Surf forecasters are now using near real-time meteorological data from satellites to find
big waves. They can use the Internet to link to satellite sources like NASA's QuikScat
satellite with its JPL SeaWinds Scatterometer, which provides data used for studying
ocean circulation, forecasting weather and understanding air-sea interactions that
control global climate.
